Tata Motors has announced the launch of its production-ready Sierra EV variant slated to be launched on June 30, 2026. In essence, this is the resurrection of the famous SUV brand which had captured the hearts of Indians in the 1990s.

Expected Launch Date and Price

Although the launch date is June 30, it is important to determine what buyers will be spending.

  • Expected price: Rs 18.49 to Rs 23.49 lakh for 65kWh and 75kWh models

Based on Next-Generation Acti.ev+ Platform

Tata is not simply stuffing batteries into the existing Sierra. The EV is based on the Acti.ev+ platform, which is a dedicated electric vehicle platform used by Tata for its recent EVs. This allows for optimum weight balance, enhanced crash protection, and optimal charging ability.

Some major benefits of the platform include:

  • Two drive options: Available in both RWD and AWD formats
  • Monocoque chassis for enhanced ride quality
  • Wheelbase of 2,730 mm for generous cabin space

Vintage Look With a Technological Twist

As evident from the pictures, the Sierra EV retains the characteristic boxy design of its predecessor while incorporating some modern features. These include connected LED headlights and taillights, blackened pillars, and the distinctive "Alpine Windows" that distinguished the Sierra of the '90s.

On the inside, the cabin gives off premium vibes:

  • Triple-display dashboard taking center stage
  • Four-spoke steering wheel with backlit Tata brand
  • Dual-tone dashboard with cutting-edge materials
  • Available in two different seating capacities: 4-seat or 5-seaters

Battery Capabilities and Practical Range

Tata has given you the freedom to choose from battery sizes depending on your budget. The Sierra EV is available with batteries of 55kWh, 65kWh, and 75kWh.

How practical is this for everyday use?

  • Predicted range: 500-550km on one charge
  • The top variants come equipped with All-Wheel Drive technology
  • Automatic gearbox for hassle-free travel around town and highways

Safety Technology and Smart Features

But that's not all; the Sierra EV is bristling with advanced technologies:

  • L2+ Advanced Driving Assistance System with 22 safety features
  • Augmented Reality HUD (Heads-Up Display) displaying 19 smart displays
  • All-around safety kit for family trips and highway drives

ELCTRIK Speaks

The new Sierra EV is Tata's move towards making India's classic cars electric-powered. Given its retro styling, contemporary technology, and Volkswagen range standards, it should be able to appeal to those who love retro cars as well as buyers of electric cars.
