Mercedes-Benz has launched the updated S-Class in India with introductory prices starting at Rs 2.20 crore (ex-showroom). The model is available in two variants and marks the introduction of a plug-in hybrid powertrain in the Indian S-Class lineup. Bookings have commenced, while customer deliveries are scheduled to begin in the fourth quarter of 2026.

2026 Mercedes-Benz S-Class Plug-in Hybrid Powertrain

The new S 450 e is powered by a 3.0-litre inline six-cylinder turbo-petrol engine paired with an electric motor and a 22 kWh lithium-ion battery pack.

The combined output stands at 429 bhp and 680 Nm of torque. Power is delivered to the rear wheels through a 9-speed automatic transmission. Mercedes-Benz claims the sedan can accelerate from 0-100 kmph in 5.7 seconds and reach a top speed of 250 kmph.

According to the company, the battery offers an electric-only driving range of up to 115 km under the WLTP test cycle. The battery also supports DC fast charging at up to 60 kW, with a claimed 10-80 per cent charging time of around 20 minutes.

The updated S-Class retains its overall design but receives several visual changes. The front section features a revised illuminated grille with multiple Mercedes-Benz star elements and redesigned Digital Light headlamps incorporating star-shaped daytime running lights.

Mercedes-Benz states that the headlamp system can project light up to 600 metres ahead under suitable conditions. The front bumper has also been revised, while the rear gets updated tail-lamps with a new lighting signature. New alloy wheel designs and additional exterior paint options have also been introduced.

Inside, the S-Class receives a new MBUX Superscreen setup consisting of a 12.3-inch digital instrument cluster, a 14.4-inch central touchscreen, and a 12.3-inch passenger display.

The system runs on Mercedes-Benz's latest MB.OS software platform and supports over-the-air updates. It also includes an AI-based voice assistant, Google Maps-powered navigation, and connected car features.

Other cabin changes include electrically adjustable air-conditioning vents and a redesigned steering wheel with tactile controls.

2026 Mercedes-Benz S-Class PHEV: Rear Seat Features

The rear cabin continues to offer electrically adjustable reclining seats with heating, ventilation, and massage functions. Standard equipment includes dual 13.6-inch rear entertainment screens.

Mercedes-Benz has replaced the earlier rear-seat tablet controller with two smaller touchscreen units. Additional features include dual wireless charging pads, four-zone climate control, ambient lighting, and a panoramic sunroof.

2026 Mercedes-Benz S-Class PHEV: Safety Features

The updated S-Class comes equipped with Level 2++ advanced driver assistance systems (ADAS), an updated automated parking assistance system, and Mercedes-Benz's Pre-Safe Impulse occupant protection technology.

The sedan also features an enhanced restraint system and offers up to 15 airbags as part of its safety package.
