Vietnamese EV producer VinFast has named Tapan Ghosh as the new CEO of VinFast Asia. As it continues to bolster its leadership structure and growth strategy in the region. Tapan Ghosh began serving as the CEO of VinFast India in October 2025. He has since been managing the company’s business and growth initiatives in India.

Tapan Ghosh as CEO, VinFast India

As the CEO of VinFast India, Ghosh managed the retail and product growth of the brand following the launch of its VF 6 and VF 7 electric SUVs. VinFast grew its retail footprint to more than 50 outlets. Aimed at scaling up its retail network to 75 outlets across 60 cities by the end of 2026.

In addition, Ghosh helped VinFast to improve their infrastructure in terms of after-sales support and localization projects. Among other activities, there are plans for localized production in VinFast’s factory in Tamil Nadu. This should ensure the presence of VinFast in the Indian market in the future.

The manufacturer plans to expand the line of their products in India and add more types of electric vehicles. This includes two-wheelers and buses, into the portfolio as part of their strategy for the development of smart mobility.

Asian Expansion

The appointment of the new CEO of VinFast Asia is taking place against the background of increased interest of the company to enter into Asian markets. India is expected to become one of the main growth markets of VinFast because of increased demand for electric vehicles, production in India and improvement of the retail network.

Comprehensive Experience in Automobiles

Prior to coming on board VinFast, Ghosh had occupied top positions in sales and commercial functions within Hyundai Motor India. The last designation he had held with the company was that of vice president and head of function, national sales. A post which he held between April 2023 and October 2025. His responsibilities involved sales strategy, network management, business development, logistics, and revenue optimisation.

Other companies which have seen him in key leadership positions include Tata Motors, Maruti Suzuki, Mahindra & Mahindra, Honda Cars India and Hindustan Motors. Ghosh has a bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering from BIT Mesra and an MBA in marketing from T. A. Pai Management Institute, Manipal.

Strategic Implications

With his new regional portfolio, Ghosh is expected to put more emphasis on market development, expansion of dealer network, customer support, and localisation in Asia. In case of India, his presence may enable VinFast to consolidate its position in passenger EVs. While preparing for future offerings in two-wheelers and commercial EVs.

The India operations of VinFast have been built around EVs and flexible sales. Aftersales strategies in its efforts to create a presence for the brand in the country. The appointment, hence, indicates the increasing significance of India in the larger Asian expansion strategy of the firm.
