JSW MG Motor India has officially launched its first-ever SUV, Hector Tomahawk. It has been developed on the company’s new ADAPT platform. It was unveiled at a launch event in Mumbai on August 26, 2026, in two electrified forms. An all-electric vehicle and a plug-in hybrid electric vehicle.

Price and Launch Information

MG is introducing a Battery-as-a-Service scheme for the first few bookings. Under this package, the Hector Tomahawk EV’s starting price is Rs 13.99 lakh along with a battery rental charge of Rs 4.90 per kilometre. Meanwhile, the PHEV version starts from Rs 21.79 lakh and has a battery rental of Rs 3.20 per kilometre.

Consumers who like to have ownership of the battery can select the ex-showroom option. For the first few units, the ex-showroom price of the EV starts at Rs 19.49 lakh. The PHEV variant starts at Rs 25.69 lakh.

Booking is already available through MG dealerships as well as the website. Deliveries of the EV are scheduled from September 2026 onwards. Deliveries and test drives for the PHEV version will begin in November 2026.

Powertrain and Range

Hector Tomahawk EV is equipped with a 69.2 kWh MAGIC battery. A permanent magnet synchronous motor that delivers power of 150 kW with torque of 310 Nm. The company claims a range of 517 km on one single charge with fast DC charging capability of up to 90 kW.

The PHEV is equipped with a 1.5 litre petrol engine, a dedicated hybrid transmission, and a 20.5 kWh battery. This SUV delivers over 115 km of pure-electric driving range along with over 1,100 km range with a full fuel and battery charge. Its 148 kW electric motor helps the car reach a speed of 100 km/h in nine seconds.

The hybrid drive operates in four operating modes:

  • Pure Electric Mode for city driving.
  • Series Hybrid Mode where the engine acts like a generator.
  • Parallel Hybrid Mode for powerful acceleration.
  • Engine Direct Drive Mode for efficient highway driving.

Vehicle-to-Home and Battery Warranty

It is worth noting that the Hector Tomahawk offers the V2H feature in India. Thus, it will be possible to operate household appliances and even part of the house by using the battery.

The company provides its customers with a lifetime battery warranty for the first owner for both the EV and the PHEV models. The battery of the EV has been tested for its safety by conducting needle penetration and thermal shock tests.

Design, Space and Interior

This model measures 4,745 mm in length, 1,770 mm in height, and has a 2,810 mm wheelbase. Ground clearance of the battery is 230 mm. The five- and seven-seater configurations are offered for the EV model while the PHEV is a seven-seater only.

The interior of the SUV will have the Desert Squadron trim. It includes the Almond Brown and Carbon Black interior colours. Ventilated and powered front seats, and a dual-pane panoramic sunroof. The cargo volume may be up to 610 litres for the five-seater configuration.

Technology and Safety

The SUV will feature a 15.6-inch HD infotainment system, 8.8-inch driver display, and 10-speaker Infinity audio system. MG i-SMART 3.0 platform will offer more than 80 connected services. Wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, over-the-air updates, and the digital Bluetooth key.

The GenAI-based voice assistant will support more than 30 Hinglish commands. Among the other technologies are gesture controls, six experience modes, and a karaoke app with 8,000+ tracks.

The safety package features six airbags, ESP, traction control, hill assist, ABS with EBD, tyre pressure monitoring system, and Level 2 ADAS. There is a 360 degree camera along with wheel view and parking sensors.

The Hector Tomahawk looks like MG's most genuine effort at giving choices in the field of electrified SUVs in India. Through the inclusion of a long-range EV along with a useful PHEV and V2H. The company is catering to both the regular commuter and those families who travel long distances. The pricing under the BaaS option will make the figures impressive. Although the cost per kilometre for the battery might have to be taken into consideration. If the ranges and safety claims prove to be valid, then it can emerge as an effective rival to its competitors.
