Mahindra has extended the XEV 9S variant lineup with a new six-seat option. Where the second-row bench seat is replaced by individual captain seats. The upgrade was revealed in August 2026. Targeting customers interested in getting a premium seating experience from their three-row electric SUV.

The new version features second-row passengers having their own seats and extra space between them. It is thought that it will allow for better comfort during long trips and easier access to the third row as well.

The six-seater XEV 9S will be available for some higher variants but not for the base ones. Mahindra continues to offer its regular seven-seater lineup for those who give preference to the maximum number of seats.

With the 70kWh battery, your XEV 9S will be able to travel up to 600km in one go. While with the 79kWh battery, you can go up to 679km. These numbers come as test-cycle claims and may differ depending on driving conditions, speed, passenger number and climate.

XEV 9S is developed by Mahindra using its INGLO platform and comes with DC fast-charging capability. It has a three-row seating capacity which makes it a more practical SUV among the EVs out there.

Seven-Seat Version Available Too

The choice of Mahindra to keep the seven-seater XEV 9S gives customers two different choices. While the former suits families who need more passengers to transport. The latter puts more emphasis on the comfort of the passengers seated at the back.

ELCTRIK Speaks

The addition of the six-seater XEV 9S into the electric SUV range offered by Mahindra is a smart move. Considering that many customers might prefer comfort over high seating capacity. The captain seats have helped make the car interior seem luxurious and bigger. While retaining the electric SUV's core attributes. It is also worth mentioning that there isn’t much difference in price between the two variants of the car. Many long-distance traveling families might find this model attractive.
