The Indian market for electric four-wheelers has shown yet another instance of impressive growth in July 2026. Even after experiencing a slight dip from the month before. Registrations of Tata Motors amounted to 13,583 electric vehicles, thereby securing more than 41% of the market share. Its electric offerings include Tiago EV, Punch EV, Nexon EV and Curvv EV.
The popularity of Tata’s leadership continues to be attributed largely to its presence in the mass electric car market. While the Punch EV and Nexon EV still appeal to urban buyers in need of electric SUVs, the Tiago EV remains one of the most affordable electric cars in India.
Mahindra Registers Triple-Digit Growth
In second place, Mahindra recorded 7,678 electric vehicle registrations in July. The growth in registration in comparison to the same period last year was triple-digit at 125%. Making it one of the best-performing companies in the Indian electric car market.
The growth of Mahindra can be attributed to the strategy it pursued of producing electric SUVs. BE 6 and XEV 9e models attracted buyers in need of electric premium vehicles focusing on design, performance, and technology. In July, Tata Motors and Mahindra together comprised about two-thirds of the Indian electric four-wheelers registration.
MG Strong Despite Sales Drop
JSW MG Motor India was third with 5,642 units in July. Sales dropped by about 4% year-on-year, but the company has still been maintaining a sizable share of the market.
The Windsor EV continues to act as the key driver of MG's volume. Thanks to its SUV-like design and comfortable interiors along with attractive pricing. MG has managed to gain a firm foothold in India's electric passenger car segment. The company is diversifying its lineup of electric vehicles targeting different consumer segments.
Maruti and VinFast Join the Race
1,590 units of the e Vitara were sold by Maruti Suzuki in July. Since Maruti is India's largest passenger vehicle producer. Its appearance in the segment of electric cars is an important move. The e Vitara benefits from the company's large dealer network and wide customer base but competes strongly against Tata, Mahindra, and MG.
1,478 units were registered by VinFast in July. This suggests that the company has started on the right foot entering the Indian market.
BYD had 742 units, whereas Hyundai had 565 units. In addition, 464 electric vehicles were sold by Kia. A significant improvement compared to the 65 units recorded by the same company in July 2025. Lastly, BMW and Mercedes-Benz had 367 units and 163 units, respectively.
