TVS Motor Leads the Segment

TVS Motor Company stayed ahead of the pack among electric two-wheelers manufacturers in July. It sold the highest ever number of units in a month, touching 55,465 units and grabbing a market share of about 27%. The year-over-year increase in its sales was 135%, mainly due to the demand for iQube series.

Bajaj Auto held onto the second place, selling 45,562 units. The Chetak electric scooter was still benefiting from the wide network of dealerships of the company.

Coming in third place was Ather Energy, which saw sales of 30,317 units. This marked a 70% growth year on year as it continued its strong growth in sales amongst high-end electric scooters.

Vida Registers Strong Growth

The electric scooter manufacturing company of Hero MotoCorp, Vida, has recorded another strong performance in July. Sales for the company grew by 111% year on year to 22,883 units, making it the fourth best in the market.

This shows that there is a growing appreciation for Vida products and the capability of Hero MotoCorp to leverage its well-developed retail and after-sales service network to enter the electric mobility business. Greaves Electric Mobility and River Mobility were also performing well with sales of 10,127 units and 5,944 units respectively. Strong yearly growth rates despite being in smaller sales volumes.

Ola Electric Faces Pressure

Ola Electric was the only company among the top 10 to record lower year on year sales in July. It sold 14,102 units, down 24% year on year. Its market share went down to around 7%.

The fall of Ola signifies the shifting competition dynamics within India’s electric two-wheeler segment. Traditional players like TVS, Bajaj and Hero have been steadily making progress through better distribution, increased service network and vehicles tailored to regular users.

India EV Penetration Hits All-Time High

As many as 11.2% of all two-wheeler registrations in July were from electric two-wheelers, compared to 10.6% in June. The FADA numbers showed that overall sales of two-wheelers in India stood at 18,18,289 units in July, marking a year-on-year growth of 28.25%.

The rise in the penetration of EVs is noteworthy as it was achieved amid some difficulties including monsoon rains in certain states. Higher sales of electric scooters were due to strong demand among city commuters, new models and improved funding options.

ELCTRIK Speaks

2026 July is a very significant month in the history of the electric two-wheeler sector in India. The reliance of the market on the EV companies is declining, and now the conventional vehicle manufacturers are also adding their value to the growth of the market.

For the upcoming festive season, the competition is anticipated to be all about pricing, financing, range, charging facilities and services. Despite the troubles faced by Ola Electric, the market is still on the right path to grow.
