Zelio E-Mobility has started production at a new manufacturing facility in Coimbatore, Tamil Nadu. It continues expanding in the southern part of India. The plant commenced production on July 13, 2026. It is poised to enhance the company’s production capabilities, reduce delivery time, and extend its geographic coverage in the south.

Increased Manufacturing Footprint

The new factory covers about 39,000 square feet and is situated on Trichy Road, Nagiyyaan Thottam, Lakshmi Nagar Kannampalayam, Coimbatore. As per the firm, the factory will be engaged in assembling electric scooters, warehousing, logistics, and other related activities.

With an annual production capacity of 60,000 units, the factory increases the company’s overall manufacturing capacity to 2,40,000 units annually from 1,80,000 units annually. The factory adds a 33% additional production capability.

Concentrate on Southern Markets

According to the company, the Coimbatore unit will cater primarily to Tamil Nadu, Karnataka, Kerala, Telangana, Andhra Pradesh, and South Maharashtra. This helps Zelio have an established presence in an area that is seeing increasing uptake of electric mobility, and one in which logistics is just as important as supply.

During the first phase, the plant is anticipated to manufacture and assemble 24,000 to 30,000 electric two-wheelers every year. The volume of manufacturing will be scaled up slowly as things normalize.

Why Does This Matter?

  • The plant will help speed up deliveries to dealers and end customers in the South.
  • The plant will increase production capacity locally, which could alleviate the burden from existing plants.
  • The plant will enable the firm’s entry into fast-growing EV markets.
  • The plant will provide Zelio greater flexibility in logistics and service.

Employment and Investments

The Coimbatore plant has at present employed 30 people and is estimated to provide job opportunities as the production goes on increasing. According to Zelio, the plant will add more than 100 people in the coming months. In order to meet its objective of having more than 500 employees during the present fiscal year.

According to the company, the facility has been developed by making investments worth Rs 1 crore. The factory will produce and assemble various models of Zelio products whereas the future product information will be provided later on.

Kunal Arya, Managing Director of Zelio E-Mobility, said, "The launch of our Coimbatore facility marks a major milestone in Zelio E-Mobility’s growth journey. South India represents one of the most promising electric mobility markets in the country, and this expansion strengthens our ability to serve customers, dealers, and partners with greater speed and efficiency. This facility will play a crucial role in supporting our next phase of growth, improving supply chain responsiveness, and reinforcing our commitment to accelerating EV adoption across India."

A Part of Broader Expansion

The Coimbatore unit becomes a new addition to Zelio’s existing manufacturing footprint which currently has plants in Ladwa and Patan, Haryana and Cuttack, Odisha. As per Zelio, the pre-existing capacity before the setting up of the new facility was 1,80,000 units per annum.

Zelio highlighted its recent business success story. According to the company, revenue jumped 81.8% year on year to ₹313.68 crore in FY2025-26. While the revenue CAGR over the past four years came in at 121%. Zelio also added that it had been making profits since its inception.

  • Zelio went public via a BSE SME listing in October 2025.
  • It generated ₹78.34 crore via this listing.
  • It currently has a 400+ dealer network spread across 25+ states.
  • Its plan is to grow its dealership base to 550+ by FY27.

ELCTRIK Speaks

This new Coimbatore plant for Zelio means much more than merely a new plant coming up. It is an indication of the strategy adopted by the company that aims at expansion through regional manufacturing, dealer assistance, and quicker deliveries. This strategy could play an important role for Zelio in improving its position in the South India region, in the midst of stiff competition between EV manufacturers on account of execution as well.
