Switch Mobility, the electric vehicle arm of Ashok Leyland, has delivered its first electric double-decker bus in Delhi. The initiative has been introduced under the company’s corporate social responsibility (CSR) programme and will operate as a heritage sightseeing service in the city.
Heritage Route and Timings
The full-day tour starts from Dilli Haat – INA at 9:00 a.m. The route includes stops at Vijay Chowk and a photography halt near Rashtrapati Bhavan. Passengers will then visit the National Museum, the National Gallery of Modern Art and the Pradhan Mantri Sangrahalaya. The tour concludes with visits to the National War Memorial and India Gate before returning to Dilli Haat – INA at 6:00 p.m.
Bus Specifications
The service will use the SWITCH EiV 22 electric double-decker bus. It is designed and manufactured in India. The bus is equipped with a 231 kWh NMC battery pack and offers a claimed driving range of up to 250 km on a single charge.
It has seating capacity for 65 passengers and features a lightweight aluminium body structure. The bus operates on a 650V electrical architecture and supports dual-gun charging. It uses liquid-cooled battery technology.
Manufacturing and Compliance
Switch Mobility stated that the bus components are manufactured domestically to meet FAME II requirements. The model is positioned for use in urban public transport operations.
Deployment in Other Cities
According to the company, electric double-decker buses are already operating in cities including Mumbai, Ahmedabad, Bhubaneswar, Chennai, Visakhapatnam, Hyderabad and Kochi as part of hop-on hop-off and public transport services. The Delhi deployment marks the introduction of an electric double-decker bus for organised heritage tours in the national capital.
