Michelin India, in collaboration with the Automotive Skills Development Council (ASDC), has concluded the convocation ceremonies for two skill development initiatives - Project Vahaan and Project EV Shiksha - in Pune. The programmes were designed to provide training in driver safety and electric vehicle servicing.

The convocation events were held in Pune on completion of the training programmes and included participation from representatives of Michelin India, ASDC, training partners, and programme participants.

Focus on Skill Development in the Mobility Sector

India’s mobility sector is seeing demand for trained drivers and technicians, including workers with knowledge of electric vehicle systems. However, access to formal training remains limited for many individuals from low-income backgrounds.

To address this gap, Michelin India supported two training initiatives aimed at providing certification-based skills training and improving employment opportunities for participants in Pune.

Project Vahaan: Training for Drivers

Project Vahaan focused on driver training under the Level 4 certification programme for Light Motor Vehicle (LMV) and Heavy Motor Vehicle (HMV) drivers.

A total of 35 candidates participated in the programme. The training combined classroom sessions and practical learning. Topics included traffic rules, defensive driving practices, road safety awareness, and basic soft skills.

The programme aimed to prepare participants for professional driving roles by aligning the training with certification standards.

Project EV Shiksha: EV Technician Training

Project EV Shiksha was designed to provide technical training related to electric vehicles.

Under the Electric Vehicle Service Technician Level 4 programme, 30 candidates received training on topics such as high-voltage safety procedures, fire safety measures, EV maintenance, basic diagnostics, minor repair work, and handling of EV components.

The training also included workplace readiness modules.

Convocation Ceremonies Held at Two Locations

The convocation ceremony for Project EV Shiksha took place at MIT Art, Design and Technology University in Pune. The ceremony for Project Vahaan was held at MIDC, Kasarwadi, Chinchwad.

During the events, candidates received completion certificates after finishing their training programmes.

Total of 65 Candidates Trained

Together, the two initiatives trained 65 candidates in driver and EV technician skills. The programmes were aimed at improving employability and providing technical training relevant to the evolving automotive and mobility sector.

Shantanu Deshpande, Managing Director, Michelin India said, “At Michelin India, we believe the future of mobility will be shaped not only by technology but also by people equipped with the right skills. Through initiatives like Project Vahaan and EV Shiksha, in partnership with ASDC, we are committed to strengthening skill development for young talent and preparing them for the evolving mobility ecosystem. By enabling access to this structured training, we aim to strengthen road safety through better tyre care and maintenance, support the transition to electric mobility, and create meaningful livelihood opportunities. Skill development has been a core priority of the Government, and we are pleased to support this vision through our initiatives.

Addressing the occasion, Vinkesh Gulati, Chairperson, ASDC said, “These initiatives demonstrate how industry-aligned skilling can deliver outcomes beyond training numbers. By integrating safety, employability, and future mobility skills, we are enabling youth to build dignified careers while contributing to safer roads and a greener mobility ecosystem.”

Arindam Lahiri, CEO, ASDC added, “Through Project Vahaan and EV Shiksha, ASDC continues to focus on impact driven skilling. The combination of certified training, industry relevance, and inclusion ensures long-term value for both learners and the mobility sector.”
