Mercedes-Benz has confirmed the introduction of the CLA Electric in India, with bookings commencing on March 10 and the official launch scheduled for April 2026. The electric sedan marks the return of the CLA badge to the Indian market and will be positioned within the brand’s entry-level EV range. Upon launch, it will compete with the BYD Seal, which is currently on sale in India.

The CLA Electric will be available in the 250+ variant, powered by an 85 kWh battery pack. It delivers a claimed range of 792 km on the WLTP cycle. The electric motor produces 268.2bhp, enabling a 0 to 100 kmph acceleration time of 6.7 seconds. The model is equipped with a two-speed gearbox, a configuration that differs from the single-speed transmissions used in most electric vehicles. DC fast charging support of up to 240 kW is available, and the company states that up to 400 km of range can be added in under 20 minutes with a compatible charger.

The BYD Seal is offered in three variants: Dynamic, Premium and Performance. The Dynamic variant features a 61.44 kWh battery paired with a 201bhp rear-mounted motor and records a 0 to 100 kmph time of 7.5 seconds. The Premium variant uses an 82.56 kWh battery combined with a 308.7bhp rear motor, achieving 0 to 100 kmph in 5.9 seconds. The Performance variant retains the 82.56 kWh battery and adds a dual-motor setup producing 215bhp at the front and 308.7bhp at the rear, providing all-wheel drive capability and a claimed 0 to 100 kmph time of 3.8 seconds.

Inside the cabin, the CLA Electric features a 10.25-inch digital instrument cluster and a 14-inch infotainment display powered by MB.OS with over-the-air update capability. The interior layout includes a three-spoke steering wheel with touch controls and carbon-fiber trim elements. Features include powered and heated front seats with memory function, a panoramic glass roof and automatic climate control. Optional equipment includes a 16-speaker Burmester sound system, a 14-inch passenger display, a head-up display and dual-zone climate control.


The BYD Seal is equipped with a 15.6-inch rotating infotainment touchscreen and a 10.25-inch digital driver display. Additional features include dual wireless charging pads, a head-up display, vehicle-to-load (V2L) functionality and an NFC card key. The front seats are heated and ventilated, with the driver’s seat offering 8-way power adjustment along with memory and lumbar support, while the co-driver seat receives 6-way power adjustment. Dual-zone climate control is standard.

Pricing for the CLA Electric has not yet been announced for India. The BYD Seal is currently available in the Indian market, with prices starting at Rs 41 lakh (ex-showroom).
