Maruti Suzuki India Limited has inaugurated its vehicle manufacturing facility at IMT Kharkhoda, Haryana. The facility was inaugurated through video conferencing by Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi and Japan's Prime Minister H.E. Ms. Sanae Takaichi during the India-Japan Joint Economic Forum held on July 2, 2026.

Senior officials from Suzuki Motor Corporation, Maruti Suzuki India, and the Government of India attended the event.

Plant Capacity and Investment

The Kharkhoda facility has been commissioned with an annual production capacity of 5 lakh vehicles. Maruti Suzuki plans to double the capacity to 10 lakh units annually, taking the total planned investment at the site to Rs 35,000 crore.

According to the company, the expansion is expected to generate more than 21,000 jobs. Once fully operational, the plant will contribute to Maruti Suzuki's target of achieving 4 million units of annual production capacity.

Manufacturing Setup

Spread across 800 acres, the facility includes an integrated supplier park. The manufacturing unit has been developed based on Suzuki's Smart Factory concept and incorporates automated production systems aimed at improving manufacturing efficiency.

The plant also uses renewable energy sources, including solar power, biogas, battery energy storage systems, and green power procurement. Maruti Suzuki stated that the facility's electricity requirement will be met through renewable energy.

Suzuki Highlights India Manufacturing

Speaking at the inauguration, Toshihiro Suzuki, Representative Director and President of Suzuki Motor Corporation, said the Kharkhoda facility will expand from its current capacity of 5 lakh units to 10 lakh units annually. He also said the plant reflects continued investments in India under the Make in India initiative.

Suzuki further noted that the company's first battery electric vehicle, the e VITARA, is being manufactured exclusively at Maruti Suzuki's Gujarat plant for exports to around 100 countries. He added that Suzuki has become the largest importer of passenger vehicles into Japan through exports from India.

Maruti Suzuki Manufacturing Capacity

With the addition of the Kharkhoda plant, Maruti Suzuki's manufacturing footprint includes:

  • Gurugram: 5 lakh units annually
  • Manesar: 9 lakh units annually
  • Hansalpur (Gujarat): 7.5 lakh units annually
  • Kharkhoda: 5 lakh units annually

The company expects its total annual manufacturing capacity to reach 2.9 million units by FY2026-27 after the commissioning of the fourth production line at its Hansalpur facility.
