Luminous Power Technologies has inaugurated a lithium-ion battery assembly line at its manufacturing facility in Baddi, Himachal Pradesh. This marks the company’s entry into in-house assembly of lithium-ion battery packs.
Production Capacity and Process
The assembly line has an annual production capacity of 500 MWh. It uses automated systems and controlled manufacturing processes to assemble lithium-ion battery packs. The focus is on consistency, safety checks and process monitoring during assembly.
Products and Applications
The facility will assemble standalone lithium-ion battery packs, stationary Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS) and battery packs for e-rickshaw applications. Single battery packs will range from 1.2 kWh to 16 kWh, with system-level configurations scalable up to 1 MWh. These products are intended for residential, commercial and industrial use, as well as electric mobility.
Digital Tracking and Compliance
Each battery pack assembled at the line will have end-to-end digital traceability. The system is aligned with Battery Aadhaar requirements, allowing lifecycle tracking from assembly to end use. This is aimed at meeting regulatory norms and improving transparency in battery management.
Employment and Local Impact
The start of operations is expected to create jobs at the Baddi facility. The company stated that the new line will support local economic activity through manufacturing and related services.
Role in Energy Storage
According to the company, the assembly line is part of its broader plan to support energy storage for renewable power, electric vehicles and grid applications. The facility is also intended to support recycling and reuse of battery components as part of battery lifecycle management.
Rajiv Ganju, Sr. Vice President, Manufacturing & Global Supply Chain, Luminous Power Technologies, said, “At Luminous, manufacturing is a core pillar of our brand promise to deliver reliable, high-quality energy solutions at scale. The inauguration of this advanced lithium-ion battery assembly line strengthens our integrated manufacturing and global supply chain capabilities, while reinforcing our focus on precision, localisation, and future-ready operations. This facility reflects how we are building resilient, technology-led manufacturing ecosystems to support India’s evolving energy needs.”
