JSW Greentech has launched Ampstar, its electric commercial vehicle brand for the Indian market. The company plans to use the brand for electric buses and trucks, with production set to begin at its upcoming manufacturing facility in Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar, Maharashtra.

The company announced the Ampstar brand on September 22, 2026. Its planned electric commercial vehicle range will cover power outputs from 150 kW to 500 kW. JSW Greentech also plans to offer different ownership models, including outright purchase, leasing and Battery as a Service (BaaS).

JSW Greentech Enters Electric Commercial Vehicle Market

JSW Greentech was incorporated in 2024 as the JSW Group's electric commercial vehicle business. The company is developing a manufacturing facility at the Auric industrial area in Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar and operates an R&D centre in Pune.

The company is working on electric commercial vehicles for applications such as passenger transport, freight movement and other commercial operations. It says the vehicles are being developed with in-house engineering and software.

Ampstar Manufacturing Facility

The Ampstar electric buses and trucks will be manufactured at JSW Greentech's upcoming facility in Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar. The plant is planned to have an annual production capacity of 15,000 electric buses and trucks.

The facility will include a pre-treatment and electro-deposition (PT-ED) process for bus manufacturing, an automated truck cabin production line and facilities for battery assembly. JSW Greentech has said that the plant will use a PT-ED process for bus manufacturing.

Ampstar Electric Bus and Truck Range

Ampstar's electric bus range will cover vehicles from 7 metres to 18 metres in length. These buses are planned for applications including staff transport, city operations, intercity travel and school transportation.

In the truck segment, the first product planned is a 55-tonne electric tractor-trailer. The company has also outlined plans for electric tippers and fixed-body dump trucks as part of its future range.

Ampstar Powertrain and Battery Technology

JSW Greentech says the Ampstar vehicles will use electric powertrains developed in-house. The company is working on the drivetrain control logic, software and algorithms, which can be configured for different vehicle applications.

The vehicles will use a double-cooling battery system and a monocoque chassis. The planned powertrain range will cover outputs between 150 kW and 500 kW. The company is also working on charging infrastructure and other systems linked to the operation of electric commercial vehicles.

Ownership and Operating Models

Along with direct vehicle sales, JSW Greentech plans to offer leasing and Battery as a Service models for Ampstar vehicles. Under the BaaS model, the battery can be offered separately from the vehicle, allowing operators to pay for battery usage through a service arrangement. The company has also mentioned financing, charging infrastructure, operating solutions and after-sales support as part of its commercial vehicle offering.
