Hyundai Motor India has announced the name of its upcoming SUV as Bayon. The announcement was made on September 14, 2026, ahead of the company's planned disclosure of further details about the model.

The Bayon will become part of Hyundai's SUV portfolio in India. According to the company, the model will use Hyundai's global design and product approach and will be developed for the Indian market. Hyundai has not yet disclosed the SUV's powertrain, dimensions, pricing, variant structure or launch timeline.

Bayon name inspired by French city

Hyundai said the name Bayon is derived from Bayonne, a city in France's Basque Country. The company said the name was selected to reflect the character associated with the city and to connect the new SUV with Hyundai's global naming and design approach.

Technology and design to be key focus

Hyundai has positioned the Bayon around technology and what it describes as an "intelligent mobility" experience. The company said the SUV will combine its global product philosophy with technology aimed at Indian customers. However, specific details about the technology, connected features and driver-assistance systems have not been announced yet.

Hyundai releases name-reveal film

Alongside the name announcement, Hyundai has released a film introducing the Bayon name. The film is set in a laboratory-inspired environment and shows different elements coming together to form the name of the SUV. It ends with the message "Intelligence ON."

Hyundai said the film is intended to introduce the theme associated with the upcoming model ahead of further announcements.
