At a global business briefing held in Japan, Honda Motor Co. showcased a next-generation hybrid sedan prototype. The model previews one of 15 hybrid vehicles the company plans to introduce globally by 2030, with a major focus on the North American market. Honda said the upcoming hybrid models will be based on a new platform and an updated hybrid system scheduled for introduction from 2027 onward.
New Hybrid System Planned From 2027
According to the company, the next-generation two-motor hybrid system has been developed to improve engine operating efficiency and overall driving efficiency. Honda stated that the new hybrid models are expected to deliver over 10 percent improvement in fuel economy compared to current systems.

The company also aims to lower system costs by around 30 percent. In addition, Honda confirmed it is developing a new electric all-wheel-drive unit that will provide more precise motor control.
ADAS Technology Under Development
Honda also shared details about its next-generation advanced driver assistance system (ADAS), which is expected to be introduced from 2028.
The system is being developed to support functions such as acceleration and steering assistance across both highways and urban roads. The technology will operate based on navigation inputs entered by the driver. Honda plans to integrate the ADAS technology into future hybrid models across multiple markets.
Hybrid Production Expansion in North America
During the briefing, Honda announced plans to increase hybrid vehicle production capacity at its Marysville and East Liberty auto plants in the United States.
The company also stated that all Honda vehicle manufacturing plants in North America will be prepared to produce hybrid models in the future. In addition, Honda confirmed plans to introduce large D-segment hybrid vehicles in 2029.
India Strategy Focuses on Compact and Mid-Size Vehicles
For the Indian market, Honda said it will introduce new products tailored to local customer demand starting in 2028. The company plans to launch models in two categories - vehicles under four metres in length and mid-size vehicles. Honda said the strategy is aimed at customers transitioning from motorcycles to passenger vehicles.
Honda also highlighted the role of its motorcycle business in India, where it sells nearly six million units annually. As part of its India operations, the company has established Honda Digital Innovation India, a digital platform business. Honda also confirmed that its captive finance company in India is expected to become operational before the end of the financial year ending March 31, 2027.
