Hero MotoCorp has decided to make yet another sizable investment in Ather Energy. Thereby helping the latter get a boost in capital and also helping Hero to increase its stake in the firm. This development has occurred when Ather Energy is scaling up its operations in terms of production, innovation, and business expansion in the Indian EV industry.

What Was Announced?

According to reports, on July 14, 2026, the Hero MotoCorp Board has sanctioned an additional investment of ₹1,000 crore in Ather Energy through preferential allotment of securities. As per the subsequent reports, Ather Energy’s board-sanctioned fundraising of ₹1,200 crore has been confirmed. Out of which ₹960 crore would be contributed by Hero through convertible warrants while ₹200 crore would be contributed by the India-Japan Fund through equity shares.

As per the company filing, Hero’s stake would increase to 30.68% on a fully diluted basis through the conversion of warrants.

The Relevance

This is significant since Hero MotoCorp continues to be Ather’s largest stakeholder and one of its most important promoters. The fresh funding provides Ather greater flexibility to invest in manufacturing, R&D, marketing, and debt repayment.

The markets responded swiftly. Ather’s stock price skyrocketed following the news, as it reached a 52-week high due to positive sentiments generated by the fundraising exercise.

Investment Structure

  • Hero MotoCorp will be investing ₹960 crore via 76.19 lakh convertible warrants at a price of ₹1,260 each.
  • India-Japan Fund run by NIIF will be investing about ₹200 crore via equity shares.
  • The promoters of Ather i.e. Tarun Mehta and Swapnil Jain will also be investing their smaller amounts.
  • These warrants can be converted into equity in 18 months' time, based on the terms of issuance.

Context of the Company

Ather had planned to raise up to ₹2,500 crore earlier, and this investment is also part of that bigger plan. It is worth noting that this investment is also an integral part of Hero's ongoing relationship with Ather that started years back and grew via multiple investments.

For Ather, this investment is not only about money but also the message that one of India’s largest manufacturers of two-wheelers believes strongly in its future prospects.

ELCTRIK Speaks

The new investment by Hero MotoCorp is an indication of huge confidence in the future potential of Ather Energy. It further implies that there is plenty of space left for Ather to exploit in the highly competitive EV market of India. The funding would definitely help the company to accelerate its pace and give a boost to its product development initiatives. From the investor’s perspective, it seems to be a very positive step.
