EKA Mobility has announced the rollout of its 1,000th small commercial vehicle (SCV) from its manufacturing facility in Chakan, Pune. The milestone comes as electric commercial vehicles continue to see adoption across sectors such as passenger transport, e-commerce, FMCG distribution and last-mile logistics.

The company also marked the occasion with the handover of two electric three-wheelers to different organisations.

Vehicle Handover Marks Production Milestone

The 1,000th vehicle produced at the facility, an EKA 6S electric three-wheeler, was handed over to the Dagdusheth Halwai Ganpati Trust in Pune. According to the company, the vehicle will be used for the trust's community service activities.

EKA Mobility also handed over an EKA 3S electric three-wheeler to Marisa Gerards, Ambassador of the Kingdom of the Netherlands to India. The handover reflects ongoing engagement between the company and stakeholders linked to sustainable mobility initiatives.

Chakan Facility and Manufacturing Capacity

EKA Mobility's Chakan facility serves as the company's production hub for small commercial vehicles and trucks. The plant has an installed production capacity of 24,000 commercial vehicles annually and employs more than 1,000 people.

The site also houses a research and development centre with over 400 engineers and designers working on vehicle development and related technologies.

Focus on Workforce Inclusion

As part of its manufacturing operations, EKA Mobility has established an all-women-led assembly line for its small commercial vehicle range under its EvolutioNARI initiative. The programme is aimed at increasing women's participation in automotive manufacturing roles.

Commercial Vehicle Portfolio Expansion

EKA Mobility manufactures electric commercial vehicles across multiple segments, including three-wheelers, small commercial vehicles, buses and trucks. The company currently operates manufacturing facilities in Koregaon Bhima and Chakan, Pune.

The company is also developing a manufacturing facility in Pithampur. Once operational, EKA Mobility said its combined facilities will have annual production capacities of 15,000 buses, 24,000 small commercial vehicles and 4,000 trucks.

Dr. Sudhir Mehta, Founder & Chairman, EKA Mobility said, “The 1,000th SCV rolling off our Chakan facility is not merely a production number; it is proof of what Indian engineering, innovation, and determination can achieve. It reflects years of perseverance and a shared belief that India can emerge as a global leader in sustainable mobility through world-class products designed and manufactured at home. As we celebrate this achievement on World Environment Day, we are reminded that our purpose extends beyond manufacturing vehicles. We are building solutions that help businesses operate more sustainably, reduce environmental impact, improve everyday mobility, and contribute to a cleaner future for generations to come."

Elctrik Speaks

The rollout of EKA Mobility's 1,000th small commercial vehicle highlights the gradual expansion of electric commercial mobility in India. While passenger EV adoption has received significant attention, growth in the commercial vehicle segment is becoming increasingly important as logistics operators, fleet owners and institutions look to reduce operating costs and emissions. Milestones such as this provide an indication of manufacturing scale-up and growing deployment of electric vehicles across last-mile transportation and urban mobility applications. The continued development of domestic manufacturing capacity and product offerings across multiple commercial vehicle segments is likely to play a role in supporting India's broader electrification goals.
