Cosmo Consumer, the consumer-facing business of Cosmo First, announced its entry into the automotive ceramic coating segment with the launch of Cosmo Guard on March 19, 2026. The move adds to the company’s existing presence in paint protection films (PPF) and window films.
Product Range and Surface Preparation
The Cosmo Guard range includes nano-ceramic coating as well as rubbing and polishing compounds used for surface preparation. These compounds are designed for professional use and are based on sub-micron abrasive technology, which maintains a consistent particle size during application. This approach differs from traditional abrasive systems where particles break down over time.
The rubbing compound is used to address surface defects such as swirl marks and sanding marks, while the polishing compound is intended to improve surface finish before the coating is applied.
Coating Composition and Function
The ceramic coating is based on Silicon Dioxide (SiO₂), which forms chemical bonds with the vehicle surface. This layer is intended to provide resistance against minor scratches, swirl marks, and environmental exposure.
The coating also exhibits hydrophobic properties, with a water contact angle of up to 100 degrees, allowing water to bead and roll off the surface.
Performance Parameters
According to the company, the polishing compound can increase surface gloss levels from around 75–85 gloss units (GU) to 92–98 GU. It also aims to improve image clarity by reducing surface irregularities.
The coating is designed to withstand surface temperatures between 70°C and 100°C and offers resistance to UV exposure and fuel spills. Laboratory tests have been conducted on parameters such as scratch resistance, weather exposure, and hydrophobic performance.
Application and Compatibility
The rubbing and polishing compounds in the range are silicone-free and do not contain waxes or fillers. This makes them suitable for use in automotive paint environments where surface accuracy is required before coating application.
Durability and Future Plans
Cosmo Guard is stated to offer a durability period of two to five years, depending on usage conditions. The company has indicated plans to expand the product line with additional variants, including graphene-based and self-healing ceramic coatings.
Abhineesh Das, Business Head, Cosmo Consumer, said, “The introduction of Cosmo Guard is a natural extension of our capabilities in specialty chemicals and automotive surface protection. As demand for advanced vehicle care solutions continues to grow, Cosmo Guard enables us to offer customers a high-performance ceramic coating that delivers durability, aesthetics, and long-term value. We are confident this will become a significant contributor to our automotive protection portfolio.”
