Blue Energy First battery swap station for e-trucks
Blue Energy Motors, along with HPCL, has set up India’s first battery-swapping station for electric heavy-duty trucks at Bhiwandi. This move would help decrease downtime due to charging and further fortify the Mumbai-Pune Electric Freight Corridor.
Key Milestone for Electric Freight Movement
At Bhiwandi, which is one of the busiest areas in terms of logistics and warehousing within the Mumbai Metropolitan Region. The battery swapping station enables Blue Energy Motor’s electric trucks to switch batteries in less than five minutes. This makes a significant difference for fleet owners since instead of having to wait for their truck’s battery to charge. They can change the battery and get back on the road immediately.
The facility is based on the strategic alliance formed by Blue Energy Motors and HPCL in January 2026. It is also the extension of the Mumbai-Pune Electric Freight Corridor created by Blue Energy Motors in October 2025.

Why Bhiwandi is Important?
Bhiwandi is an important logistics hub that serves the city of Mumbai along with its surroundings. The movement of commercial vehicles in the area is high. Therefore, Bhiwandi is the perfect place for building battery swapping facilities.
- This facility will cater to the needs of the electric trucks of Blue Energy Motors.
- Time taken in battery swapping is under five minutes.
- It will help decrease downtime of the vehicles.
- It is directly connected with the electric freight corridor of Mumbai-Pune.
- It is the first such facility built in Bhiwandi.
Anand Mimani, CEO - EV & New Energy Business, Blue Energy Motors, said, “Our focus at Blue Energy Motors is on making electric freight a practical and scalable reality in India. Our partnership with HPCL brings together our strengths to build the energy infrastructure needed to support this transition. Bhiwandi, with its strong freight and logistics activity, is an important market for us. This first facility is a meaningful step forward, and we look forward to expanding our network of battery-swapping and charging facilities across key markets, supporting electric trucking and serving the wider EV ecosystem.”
Not Just A Charging Station For Trucks
However, the facility does not consist of only charging stations for electric trucks. As mentioned earlier, Blue Energy Motors has partnered with HPCL for providing EV charging stations for electric two wheelers, four wheelers and commercial vehicles.
It implies that the site becomes an energy station for multiple EVs apart from being freight specific. In addition, it proves that existing networks of fuel retail can aid in the development of electric mobility by providing battery swapping. Conventional charging solutions at the same location.
Greater Focus On Sustainable Trucking
As far as Blue Energy Motors is concerned, battery swapping can be treated as a component of a larger strategy for sustainable commercial vehicles. The firm provides electric and LNG-powered heavy duty trucks and claims that it has more than 1,400 green heavy duty trucks running on key freight routes in India.
In accordance with the company's reports, its vehicles have completed over 150 million green kilometers with avoidance of over 44,000 tonnes of CO2 emissions. According to Blue Energy Motors, it is equivalent to absorption of CO2 by 1.8 million trees.
HPCL claims that it has set up over 5,800 EV chargers and over 150 battery swapping stations in the country. The company’s growing list of EV facilities stretches over major highways and cities, benefiting individual EV owners as well as fleet managers.
Implications For Fleet Managers
While looking at electric trucks for logistics, range, charge time, downtime and the cost of ownership tend to be among the top worries. A quick battery swap takes care of one of these worries.
- Fleet operations could benefit from faster turnover times.
- Idle time can become less and generate additional revenue per vehicle.
- Electric vehicles can rely less on lengthy charging sessions.
- More publicly available chargers mean added flexibility for all other EVs.
- Electric truck adoption along the Mumbai-Pune route could be encouraged by the new Bhiwandi station.
ELCTRIK Speaks
The battery-swap facility for electric trucks in Bhiwandi is an effective move in favor of developing electric trucking in India. Because downtime can make or break the economics of a fleet. The five-minute battery-swap solution, supported by HPCL’s retail chain, solves one of the biggest problems that prevent fleet companies from using electric trucks. The successful implementation of this business model in other areas could help persuade fleets to use electric trucks.
