Atul Auto and Exponent Energy announced a collaboration to develop and deploy electric passenger three-wheelers. The companies said they plan to roll out at least 15,000 units over a period of three years. The agreement focuses on integrating vehicle manufacturing with charging and battery systems to support commercial operations in the three-wheeler segment.

Platform and Technology Integration

As part of the partnership, Atul Auto’s vehicles will be equipped with Exponent Energy’s electric mobility platform designed for three-wheelers. The platform combines battery systems, powertrain components, and vehicle software into a single architecture.

The system, which has previously been used in retrofit applications, will now be introduced in new factory-built vehicles. It is also compatible with different charging options, including public and home charging setups.

Charging and Warranty Details

Exponent Energy’s system supports rapid charging, allowing the battery to be charged in about 15 minutes. The company stated that the system is designed for regular commercial usage. The battery and related components are covered under a warranty of up to 2 lakh kilometres.

Financing and Ownership Support

Exponent Energy has also introduced a financing platform, Exponent One, led by Sandeep Divakaran. The platform will provide financing options for these vehicles, including insurance and buyback structures. These measures are intended to address upfront cost and ownership-related concerns for buyers in the commercial vehicle segment.

Impact on Commercial Operations

The companies stated that faster charging and reduced downtime may influence vehicle usage patterns in the passenger three-wheeler segment. The focus remains on improving operational availability and reducing dependence on longer charging cycles.
