The Yangwang U9 Track Edition has officially set the world’s fastest electric car. Setting speed records and redefining EV hypercar performance on August 8, 2025. At the ATP Automotive Testing Papenburg track in Germany.
Yangwang U9: Record-Breaking Achievement
BYD’s premium sub-brand Yangwang recorded a top speed of 472.41 km/h (293.5 mph). With its U9 Track Edition supercar, which beat the old record held by the Aspark OWL SP600 (438.7 km/h). The record was established by experienced German driver Marc Basseng. He heaped credit on the vehicle for its new technologies and topping his own earlier record.
Yangwang U9: Key Features and Technology
- The U9 Track Edition features a quad-motor “e4” electric powertrain. It can produce more than 3,000 PS (peak 555kW per motor, 30,000 rpm). A power-to-weight ratio of 1,217 PS per tonne.
- It uses the world’s first mass-producible 1200V ultra-high-voltage architecture. A dedicated thermal-management system for high-speed durability.
- Sophisticated suspension and torque-vectoring. Through BYD’s proprietary DiSus-X Intelligent Body Control System, it provides stability at high speeds.
- Unique enhancements include new track-focused semi-slick tires by Giti Tire. An optional carbon-fiber front splitter.
Availability and Future Prospects
The Yangwang U9 base is being sold in China currently with European launches planned by 2026. The Track Edition of the U9 has technical advancements of the road cars. Emphasis on ultimate speed and performance, but with production-feasible components.
