Skoda Auto, the Czech automaker, is gearing up to unveil its latest electric vehicle (EV) at its annual press conference tomorrow, hinting at a compact and budget-friendly addition to its lineup.
Ahead of its official debut, Skoda Auto has released a teaser video providing glimpses of its forthcoming EV model. Positioned as the brand’s smallest and most affordable EV yet, the new Skoda EV is poised to make waves in international markets before eventually reaching Indian shores. Priced at an estimated Rs 23 lakh in India, it aims to cater to a wider audience and contribute to the adoption of electric transportation.
In addition to this upcoming model, Skoda also has plans to introduce the Enyaq EV in India by the end of 2024, further solidifying its commitment to the electric vehicle segment. The Enyaq EV, available in various configurations globally, is anticipated to bolster Skoda’s EV lineup and offer customers a diverse range of options.
While details about the new Skoda EV remain scarce, the teaser video hints at a hatchback-like design with sleek LED headlights adorned with the iconic Skoda emblem. Built on the Volkswagen Group’s MEB Entry platform, it is expected to offer two battery pack options: 38 kWh and 56 kWh, providing a maximum driving range of up to 450 kilometres on a single charge.
With a focus on global competitiveness, the new Skoda EV is poised to rival vehicles like the Volkswagen ID.2 electric hatchback in international markets. While its initial release is expected to target global audiences, Skoda remains open to the possibility of introducing the EV in India, as part of its strategic expansion plans.
Martin Jahn, a member of Skoda’s management board, expressed the company’s interest in tapping into India’s growing electric vehicle market, emphasizing the importance of offering volume electric cars tailored to Indian consumers’ needs.
Meanwhile, Skoda continues its preparations for the launch of the Enyaq EV in India later this year, offering customers a powerful and versatile electric driving experience with configurations like the Enyaq 80 boasting impressive performance figures.
