Raptee.HV, a Chennai-based electric motorcycle startup, has introduced its inaugural e-motorcycle, the T 30, priced at INR 2.39 lakh and produced at its Madras facility.
Key Highlights
The motorcycle is designed to be compatible with car charging standards and is equipped to utilize a CCS2 (combined charging system) charger, as revealed by Dinesh Arjun, Co-Founder and CEO of Raptee.HV to ETAuto.
The company’s target market is the mid-premium mass market segment (INR 2 lakh to INR 3 lakh) with a capacity of 250-300 cc. Arjun mentioned that the company is focusing on two primary demographics: those in the market for a 200 cc motorcycle and those seeking an upgrade from their current 100 cc vehicles to a higher capacity (250-300cc) model.
The rationale behind the use of a CCS2 charger is to offer a practical solution that facilitates the transition from internal combustion engine (ICE) to electric motorcycles, providing high voltage and longevity to the vehicle. Arjun emphasized that the company anticipates a shift towards high voltage for all electric motorcycles in the next five years.
The company plans to commence deliveries of the Raptee.HV T 30 from January, starting with Chennai and Bengaluru, with the goal of selling 8,000 units by CY 2025, generating approximately INR 200 crore in revenue. Arjun emphasized that the initial focus on 8,000 units in the first year is to ensure a high-quality customer experience for all customers.
T 30 bike specifications
The Raptee.HV T 30 motorcycle is the first in the country to utilize universal charging standards found in electric cars, thanks to its high voltage technology. It boasts an IDC estimated range of approximately 200 km and a real-world range exceeding 150 km on a single charge. With an acceleration from 0 to 60 kmph in under 3.5 seconds, this motorcycle stands out in its category. It is available in four colors: horizon red, arctic white, mercury grey, and eclipse black.
To ensure safety, the company provides an IP67-rated battery pack that complies with all regulatory requirements and offers a battery warranty of 8 years or up to a certain number of kilometers for added mobility.
Additionally, the Raptee.HV features in-house developed electronics powering the high voltage technology and a custom-built Operating System based on an automotive-grade Linux platform, delivering a highly responsive and intuitive user experience as highlighted by Arjun.
Fundraising and biz strategy
The company has secured INR 40 crore in both equity and grants and is now seeking an additional INR 157 crore to expedite the production of its newly introduced Raptee.HV and establish R&D for its future products.
Furthermore, the company is developing its next product, slated for launch in Q1 CY26, followed by another release in Q4 CY26. Arjun emphasized the company’s intention to introduce a new product annually, aiming to avoid being a single-product company for an extended period.
The fundraising initiative is projected to conclude by the end of CY2024.
Arjun also mentioned plans to expand manufacturing and outlets to enhance the customer experience gradually.
The upcoming product will share the same platform as the Raptee.HV and will have a similar pricing structure. The company is currently in the process of finalizing the design for the upcoming motorcycle.
Raptee.HV’s introduction of the T 30, the country’s first high-voltage e-motorcycle, is an impressive step in the electric motorcycle industry. The emphasis on providing a high-quality customer experience and the planned expansion of manufacturing and outlets show a strong commitment to customer satisfaction and growth. Their plans for future products and fundraising indicate a clear vision for long-term success and sustainability.ELCTRIK Speaks
