The first-ever electric Porsche, the Taycan is famous to be in news, thanks to all the global records it has achieved in just a short span of five years, since its global unveil in 2019. Be it the Nurburgring Lap Time, where this German electric sports car established a world record, completing a 20.8 Km lap in just 7 minutes and 42 seconds or registering name in Guiness world of records for longest drift with an electric vehicle, drifting continuously for 42.171 km over 55 minutes, the Taycan has always overshadowed the taboo of electric sports car being any less than, their ICE counterparts.
The Taycan is again in trends, but this time not for good. On a global scale, Porsche has declared a call-off for all the Taycans, manufactured in duration of 2020. The owners of Taycan from 2020 batch, have been advised to visit their dealership networks. This world-level call has been made due to a severe issue identified in a lot of Taycan units, departed from the dealerships, four years back from now.
The malfunction has been spotted in the front brake hoses. This in certain cases, have developed cracks, leading to fluid leakage. The leakage has resulted in reducing brake pressure and diminishing the braking performance.
Over 1.5 lakh Taycans, have been sold by Porsche worldwide and solely 20,015 units were sold in duration of 2020 globally, but the recall has only been announced for the models, which indicates warning light on the dashboard. In a situation where, the light appears red, the driver is advised to immediately stop using the car and contact the Porsche customer service to get the vehicle towed to the nearest service centre.
In conditions, where there’s a blink of yellow light on the dashboard, the driver is instructed to drive the Taycan safely to the nearest service centre. However, if there’s no indication the car is safe and you need not to worry, as you’re exempted from the recall.
As per the Porsche officials, they have made this recall after hearing on the first case on the brake hose malfunction in a Taycan, later on, compliant on the similar issue continued to be brought, noticed with mostly models sold in year of 2020 globally. Believing the sources, over 31,000 units have been asked to make a return to the service centres across the world.
To resolve this issue, Porsche has declared a free of cost replacement for component to improve the front brake hoses bending radius, significantly reducing the strain and risk of future cracking.
This is not the first time Taycan has overseen a recall. Just an year from the global debut in 2019, a batch of Taycan was recalled for potential issues with the high-voltage battery, which could have leaded to a short circuit, increasing the risk of a fire. Owners were advised to charge their vehicles only up to 80% capacity until the necessary repairs were completed. The recall covered various models including the Taycan 4S, Taycan Turbo and Taycan Turbo S.
Another recall was made between the duration of 2020-2021, due to a software issue that could cause a sudden loss of power. This affected about 43,000 units of Taycans worldwide. The issue involved the power electronics and engine control unit, which could infrequently
cause an unintended power train shutdown. To resolve this, Porsche planned to install a software update at their workshops, as it couldn’t be done over-the-air.
While, everyone’s talking about the Taycan’s global recall, the German electric sports car has received a facelift in India with a revised price tag of Rs 1.89 Cr.
