MG Motor India has reported an 8.7% decline in its year-over-year (YoY) sales for July. The company’s sales fell from 5,012 units last year to 4,572 units in July 2024. Despite this drop, MG’s electric vehicles (EVs), including the Comet and ZS EV, continue to perform well, accounting for nearly 1,500 of the total units sold.
Comet and ZS EV: A Bright Spot in the EV Market
The strong consumer acceptance of MG’s electric cars, particularly the Comet and ZS EV, highlights the growing demand for new energy vehicles (NEVs) in India. These models are contributing significantly to MG’s sales, despite the overall decline in units sold.
Upcoming Launch: MG Windsor
In collaboration with the JSW Group, MG Motor is preparing to introduce its third electric car to the Indian market—the Windsor crossover. The Windsor, known as the Wuling Cloud EV in Indonesia, offers two battery options: a 37.9 kWh pack with a 360 km range, and a 50.6 kWh pack with a 460 km range. It features a 134-horsepower front-axle electric motor. However, the specific variant for the Indian market is yet to be confirmed.
Advanced Features and Technology
The MG Windsor will be equipped with the ‘Hello Jio’ voice assistant, supporting multiple Indian languages such as English, Hindi, Marathi, Gujarati, and Tamil. Additionally, it will feature the MG App Store within its infotainment system and offer home-to-car capability.
New Initiatives: DriEV Bharat and eHUB App
As part of its “DriEV Bharat” initiative, MG Motor has introduced several new technologies to support its EV ecosystem. These include the eHUB app, which simplifies public EV charging by providing a platform to locate, book, and pay for charging stations. The app is available on both the Apple App Store and Google Play. Furthermore, MG unveiled Project REVIVE and EVPEDIA, initiatives focused on enhancing the EV ownership experience in India.
ELCTRIK Speaks
Despite the recent decline in sales, MG Motor India remains committed to expanding its presence in the EV market. The strong performance of its electric vehicles and the upcoming launch of the Windsor crossover demonstrates the company’s focus on innovation and sustainability. With new initiatives like the eHUB app and Project REVIVE, MG is poised to strengthen its position in the growing Indian EV market.
