Kia EV9 Teased Before India Launch
Kia India has teased the upcoming EV9 electric SUV ahead of its official launch on October 3. The EV9, which will be brought to India as a Completely Built Unit (CBU), is set to become Kia’s flagship offering in the country, positioned above the EV6.
The Kia EV9 will be introduced as a direct import, reflecting its premium status. Expected to be priced over Rs 1 crore (ex-showroom), the EV9 will compete with luxury electric SUVs like the Mercedes-Benz EQE SUV, BMW iX1, and Audi Q8 e-tron.
EV9 Design and Platform
The EV9 made its India debut in concept form at the Auto Expo 2023. Later, it was revealed globally in its production version. The EV9 is built on Kia’s E-GMP skateboard electric platform, measuring 5,010mm in length with a 3,100mm wheelbase. It will be available in both 6-seater and 7-seater configurations.
Kia EV9 Powertrain and Performance
Internationally, the Kia EV9 comes with two battery options: a 76.1kWh unit and a larger 99.8kWh unit. The rear-wheel drive (RWD) variants, equipped with a single motor, offer an EPA-estimated range between 370-489km. The all-wheel-drive (AWD) version, featuring dual electric motors, delivers a range of 435-451 km on a single charge.
The single-motor RWD version produces either 201hp or 215hp, depending on the variant, with 350Nm of torque. On the other hand, the AWD version generates 379hp and up to 700Nm of torque. The top-spec GT-Line variant can accelerate from 0-100kph in just 5.3 seconds, with a top speed of 200kph. It is yet to be confirmed if both RWD and AWD versions will be available in India.

EV9 Launch and Competitors
As Kia’s new flagship, the EV9 will sit above the EV6 in the brand’s lineup. With a price tag expected to exceed Rs 1 crore, it will face competition from high-end luxury electric SUVs in the Indian market. Alongside the EV9, Kia is also set to launch the next-gen Carnival MPV in India on October 3.
