Kia Carnival MPV Spied at Delhi Airport Before Launch

The Kia Carnival MPV will initially be imported as a completely built unit (CBU), with local assembly anticipated to commence at a later date.

An intriguing development for automotive enthusiasts, the 2024 Kia Carnival was recently spotted without disguise at the Delhi Airport, as documented by astute observer Vipul Singh. The next generation of the Carnival, previously showcased at the 2023 Auto Expo as the KA4, is scheduled for launch in India on October 3, 2024.

The upcoming 4th generation Kia Carnival will initially enter the Indian market as a Completely Built Unit (CBU), with local assembly set to begin next year. This strategic decision is likely to result in higher initial prices, estimated to range between Rs 50-60 lakhs due to the increased taxes and duties associated with CBU imports.

The 2024 Kia Carnival draws inspiration from Kia’s flagship SUV, the EV9, and presents a more robust and modern design. The MPV showcases a redesigned front grille, vertically stacked LED headlamps, and distinctive L-shaped LED DRLs. The rear of the Carnival features connected tail lamps with an LED light bar, enhancing its contemporary aesthetic.

The updated dashboard now incorporates a sizable 12.3-inch digital instrument cluster, a corresponding touchscreen infotainment system, and redesigned climate controls. 

Advanced features such as a head-up display unit, digital rearview mirror, ambient lighting, and a front and rear dash camera system enrich the cabin experience. The vehicle also provides ventilated and massage seats, with the rear seats being equipped with an exclusive entertainment package, solidifying its position as a leading contender in the luxury MPV segment.

Engine and Performance

Globally, the Kia Carnival offers three engine options, but the Indian market is expected to get the 2.2-liter diesel engine, producing 201 horsepower and 440 Nm of torque, along with an 8-speed automatic transmission. This setup is tailored to deliver a balanced combination of performance and efficiency, well-suited for Indian driving conditions.

Despite its premium pricing, the Carnival is anticipated to occupy a distinctive position in the Indian market with minimal direct competition. The only other vehicle in its class, the Toyota Vellfire, commands a significantly higher price starting from Rs 1.22 crores (ex-showroom).
