In recent major global car crash safety tests, electric vehicle (EV) models manufactured by Hyundai Motor and Kia, based in South Korea, achieved top ratings, according to the automakers’ announcement on Sunday.
Key Highlighted:
Five Hyundai and Kia electric vehicle (EV) models, which use the Electric-Global Modular Platform (E-GMP), Hyundai Motor Group’s in-house EV platform, have received the top rating of five stars in the European New Car Assessment Programme. The models include the Genesis GV60, Hyundai’s Ioniq 5 and Ioniq 6, and Kia’s EV6 and EV9.
The GV60, Ioniq 5, Ioniq 6, and EV6 models achieved top-tier ratings in crash evaluations administered by the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS) in the United States. These vehicles were honored with the distinguished Top Safety Pick (TSP) Plus rating, signifying exceptional safety levels. Additionally, the EV9 received the Top Safety Pick rating, further confirming its high safety standards.
In the previous year’s IIHS crash tests, 20 vehicles from the Hyundai Motor Group received TSP or higher ratings, the largest number for any global automotive group.
The Hyundai Motor Group prioritizes research and development to enhance passenger safety across all domains. This dedication aligns with South Korean automotive companies’ concerted efforts to advance their electric vehicle launch schedules, despite public apprehensions about EV safety. These key industry players are actively working to dispel unwarranted concerns regarding the safety of EV charging practices.
The recent concerns regarding electric vehicles (EVs) emerged following a fire that broke out in a stationary Mercedes-Benz EV, resulting in the destruction of an entire underground parking facility in an apartment complex in Incheon, located 27 kilometers west of Seoul, and causing damage to over 100 vehicles.
Hyundai Motor and Kia affirm that their EV batteries are designed to remain safe at full charge due to their advanced internal battery management system, which continuously monitors and addresses any potential issues.
The safety ratings for Hyundai and Kia’s EV models are impressive, especially with the top ratings in the European New Car Assessment Programme and the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety tests. It’s reassuring to see their commitment to prioritizing research and development to enhance passenger safety. Their proactive approach in addressing concerns about EV safety is commendable.ELCTRIK Speaks
