Metro Bike Taxi Connecting the Last Mile Connectivity Gap
The Delhi Metro has been connecting crores of people through its mega network. However, the final mile continues to be the most difficult part. One that DMRC recently tackled by inducting bike taxis at 12 metro stations, thus making easy rides available for booking via the Momentum 2.0 app.
Dr. Vikas Kumar, MD, DMRC, addressed the meet and said this concept of service would be transformative. “This bike taxi service was created to guarantee a smooth commuter journey from metro stations to their ultimate destination. We are improving accessibility and safety while cutting down on travel time by combining SHERYDS and RYDR under one roof.” he added.
Empowering Women: Sheryds Advantage
The bike taxi initiative comes with another flagship offering “Sheryds”, a service exclusively created for women commuters. It aims to provide a safe, reliable, and empowering mode of transport among women, facilitated by lady drivers.
Anuj Dayal, Principal Executive Director of Corporate Communications at DMRC, further elaborated: “SHERYDS is not merely a bike taxi service but a women’s empowerment initiative which provides secure mobility and economic activities for them. This project promotes gender balance among the people commuting in the city.”
The Core of Sustainability
The most relevant aspect of this initiative is environmental sustainability. All the bikes available for the service are electric to reduce carbon emissions, which the DMRC undertakes by combating air pollution. While Delhi battles over cleanliness levels and greenery to make the environment greener, DMRC’s decision to go electric reflects a proactive approach to living with environmental challenges.
Metro Bike Taxi Affordable and Accessible for All
The bike taxi service is innovative yet economical. The base price starts at as low as ₹10 for the first kilometer and ₹8 for each subsequent kilometer. The DMRC intends to extend the service to 100 metro stations in a month, with the ultimate objective of reaching all 250 metro stations. This aggressive roadmap will transform last-mile connectivity in Delhi into seamless commuting.
How do I book SHERYDS and RYDR?
Booking a ride is more accessible via the Momentum 2.0 application. An end-user simply chooses the service (the SHERYDS or RYDR bike taxi service). The application includes fare calculation, route tracking, and offers frictionless payments in order to make the experience hassle-free.
ELCTRIK Speaks
The DMRC bike taxi initiative talks to a fully integrated approach towards people movement and out of an urban space. Safety’s paramount aspect in this activity and the principles of sustainability done with a perfected affordability quotient make it a game-changer for Delhi and emulated in models across urban planning across the globe.
