The Citroën C5 Aircross Concept features a sleek and muscular design inspired by the unconventional Oli concept of 2022. Its design prioritizes interior space and range efficiency.
Key Highlights
Citroën claims that this electric SUV has been sculpted for efficiency, resulting in an additional 19 miles of motorway range compared to the current-shape C5 Aircross when powered by electricity.
The redesign includes a lowered nose, flattened rear end, and raked roofline. It also incorporates Citroën’s new logo, three-point light signature, and uncluttered front and rear ends, similar to the recently launched C3 supermini.
The rear of the car is equipped with protruding (“floating”) lights, known as Light Wings, which serve to guide airflow. The concept car measures 4650mm in length and 1660mm in height, making it 150mm longer and 39mm lower than the current model. This results in increased legroom for all five passengers.
The interior design, described as “in the spirit of a lounge,” will be unveiled next year. The extended rear overhang suggests that the concept will offer more boot space than the current 580-liter capacity. While the width of the concept has not been confirmed, Citroën has stated that its track is wider.
The concept represents Citroën’s inaugural model built on Stellantis’s STLA Medium platform, which was recently utilized in the Peugeot e-3008. This platform allows for the integration of combustion, hybrid, or all-electric powertrains.
Although the concept car isn’t ready for the road, Citroën said it “promises a serene, connected driving experience to accompany families in their multifaceted lives”.
The initial C5 Aircross was released for sale in 2018 and underwent a facelift in 2022, indicating that the next generation (Mk2) is expected to debut in 2026. It has achieved over 27,500 sales in the UK since 2018, positioning it as Citroën’s third top-selling model in the region.
The C5 Aircross Concept seems like an exciting and innovative development for Citroën. Its sleek and muscular design, focus on interior space, and range efficiency position it as a promising electric SUV. The STLA Medium platform’s versatility and adaptability to different market needs are enhanced by its potential for various powertrains. Overall, it seems like a significant step forward for Citroën in the electric vehicle market.ELCTRIK Speaks
