Ather Energy and Google Partner to Simplify Charging for E2W

Ather Energy, a leading electric scooter manufacturer in India, has partnered with Google to integrate real-time information about the availability of two-wheeler fast-charging stations. Through this collaboration, users can locate Ather Grid fast chargers on Google Maps and receive live status updates. The initiative aims to improve the accessibility of public charging grids for electric vehicle (EV) owners by leveraging the Light Electric Combined Charging System (LECCS), India’s standard EV charging connector.

This update simplifies finding Ather fast-charging stations, as they can now be easily located on Google Maps with live status updates. Furthermore, any newly installed chargers will be promptly added to Google Maps.

Setting Universal Standard for EV Charging

LECCS is now available as a plug type on Google Maps, allowing users to select it as their default connector. Consequently, searches for phrases such as “EV charger near me” or “charging stations” will now encompass chargers equipped with the LECCS connector.

The company announced that this partnership will facilitate seamless charging access for any vehicle equipped with LECCS at Ather’s fast-charging stations, Ather Grid.

Ather Grid’s network of fast chargers for electric two-wheelers is built on the Light Electric Combined Charging System (LECCS). The Bureau of Indian Standards has approved this system for nationwide adoption. Launched last year, the LECCS is seen as a significant step towards creating a universal standard through interoperability, which promotes the broader use of electric vehicles in India.

As of March 30, 2024, Ather Energy has made 1,973 fast chargers available to the public. This reflects Ather Energy’s commitment to providing a seamless charging experience for its customers.

The features encompass a touch-screen dashboard, on-board navigation, quick charging for electric two-wheelers, a reverse mode, and a mobile app. Ather has recently incorporated widely used consumer technologies such as Google Maps navigation, Alexa skills, and WhatsApp notifications into its two-wheelers.
