MG Motor India has introduced the MG Comet EV with an enhanced fast charging option, marking a significant leap in electric vehicle technology. Alongside this update, the lineup sees a reconfiguration, now featuring two new variants with added features. The revamped pricing structure starts at an enticing Rs 6.99 lakh, reaching up to Rs 9.14 lakh (both prices Ex-showroom).
Previously offered in three variants – Pace, Play, and Plush – the Comet EV now presents the Executive, Excite, and Exclusive trims, each offering distinct enhancements. Notably, the Excite and Exclusive variants now boast the fast-charging capability, heralding a new era of convenience for EV users. The Exclusive trim, priced Rs 20,000 higher than its predecessor, showcases a premium evolution from the Plush variant, while the Executive and Excite variants maintain their original pricing.
With the fast charging upgrade, the Comet EV’s charging infrastructure receives a significant boost, featuring a potent 7.4 kW AC charger. This enhancement drastically reduces charging times compared to the previous model’s 3.3 kW AC charger, ensuring greater efficiency in replenishing the battery.
In addition to the fast charging capability, the Excite and Exclusive variants introduce a host of new features, including rear disc brakes, electronic parking brake, ESC, power foldable ORVMs, turn indicator integrated DRLs, and creep mode. These variants also offer twin 10.25-inch screens for infotainment and instrument cluster, wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, steering-mounted controls, three USB ports, and cutting-edge connected car technology. Safety features encompass ABS, EBD, tyre pressure monitoring system (TPMS), a reverse camera with sensors, and dual front airbags.
Under the hood, the Comet EV retains its impressive powertrain configuration, comprising a 17.3 kWh battery pack paired with a single electric motor generating 42hp of power and 110Nm of torque. Notably, the battery boasts an IP67 rating for water and dust resistance, delivering an ARAI-certified range of 230km, ensuring optimal performance and longevity.
