The Uttar Pradesh government is stepping up to meet the rising demand for electric vehicle (EV) charging stations on its expressways. As part of its EV Policy 2022, the state will equip four major expressways with 26 new charging stations. This project is being executed in partnership with Adani Total Energies E-Mobility Limited.
Specifically, the Agra-Lucknow (302 km), Purvanchal (341 km) and Bundelkhand (296 km) expressways will each get eight charging stations. The Gorakhpur Link Expressway (91 km) will see the addition of two new stations. Plans are also in place to install charging stations on the upcoming Ganga Expressway.
The Uttar Pradesh Expressways Industrial Development Authority (UPEIDA) has outlined provisions under the UP EV Policy 2022 to facilitate these installations. Alongside the charging stations, 14 public facility complexes are set to be established along the Purvanchal, Bundelkhand, and Gorakhpur Link expressways.
UPEIDA is in the process of finalizing the charging rates. The state government estimates that the cost of constructing and connecting these charging stations will be around Rs 9.37 crore.
In addition to the charging stations, development work is underway for 14 public facilities along the Purvanchal, Bundelkhand
and Gorakhpur Link expressways. Bharat Petroleum Corporation Limited has secured a tender to build two of these facilities on the Gorakhpur Link Expressway under the Public-Private Partnership (PPP) model.
The remaining 12 facilities will be constructed by UPEIDA using the Engineering, Procurement, and Construction (EPC) model.
