In a significant move, Tata Motors, India’s leading electric vehicle manufacturer, has announced substantial price cuts for its electric offerings, the Tiago EV and Nexon EV.
The Tiago EV sees a markdown of Rs 70,000, with prices now commencing from Rs 7.99 lakh (ex-showroom). Meanwhile, the Nexon EV receives an even more substantial discount of up to Rs 1.2 lakh. Consequently, the starting price for the electric SUV now stands at Rs 14.49 lakh for the Medium Range variant, with the top-of-the-line Long Range model priced from Rs 16.99 lakh (both prices ex-showroom).
Launched back in September 2022, the Tiago EV is available in four trims: XE, XT, XZ+, and XZ+ Tech Lux. It offers two lithium-ion battery pack options, providing customers with versatility in performance and range.
The first option comprises a 19.2kWh battery pack paired with an electric motor, delivering 61hp and 110Nm of torque, with a claimed range of 250 km. The second option features a larger 24kWh pack paired with an electric motor producing 74hp and 114Nm of torque, offering a claimed range of 315 km.
Both battery packs boast efficient charging capabilities. With a 50kW DC fast charger, charging from 10 to 80 percent takes just 57 minutes. Using the standard 3.3kW home charger, the 19.2kWh battery reaches full charge in 5 hours and 5 minutes, while the 24kWh battery takes 6 hours and 20 minutes. An optional 7.2kW AC fast charger is also available, reducing charging times to 2 hours and 35 minutes for the 19.2kWh battery and 3 hours and 35 minutes for the 24kWh battery.
The Nexon EV, on the other hand, offers two variants: Medium Range (MR) and Long Range (LR). The MR variant features a 30 kWh battery pack paired with a Gen-2 permanent magnet synchronous motor, delivering 129hp and 215Nm of torque, with a claimed range of 325 km. Charging the battery from 10 to 100 percent takes 4.3 hours using the standard 7.2kW AC charger.
Tata Motors’ price cuts aim to make electric vehicles more accessible and affordable to the Indian market, encouraging widespread adoption of sustainable mobility solutions.
