Key Highlights:
- Curvv Coupe likely to feature Lift-back boot-lid
- Curvv Coupe to house radar based ADAS Level 2
Tata Motors’ most anticipated EV to date, the Compact SUV Curvv Coupe EV, was recently unveiled alongside its internal combustion (ICE) counterpart as a clay art model. It is set to launch on August 7, 2024 and promises a tech-loaded cabin, sharing many features with its predecessor, the Nexon EV and its upcoming successor, the Harrier EV.
The electric version of the mid-sized SUV is expected to debut next fiscal year. Despite previous coverage, including from Elctrik, there are a few crucial points that were overlooked. This article will address these emerging details, highlighting the indigenous automaker’s engineering excellence and creative craftsmanship.
Advanced Driver Assistance System (ADAS) Placement:
Tata Motors will equip both the ICE and EV versions of the Curvv Coupe, their compact SUV, with an Advanced Driver Assistance System (ADAS) Level 2 suite. Contrary to earlier spy shots that showed a windshield-based camera, the production-spec clay models feature radar integrated into the air dams.
The ICE and EV versions have vertically and horizontally crafted air dam patterns, respectively.
Martin Uhlarick, Vice President of Tata Motors Design, confirmed that the Curvv Coupe was designed at all three of the automaker’s design centers, showcasing their craftsmanship.
The radar integration for ADAS Level 2 is seamlessly incorporated into the air dams, remaining inconspicuous and enhancing the vehicle’s aesthetic without drawing attention. This attention to detail, reminiscent of European and German engineering, which exemplifies Tata’s commitment to elevating its design and styling philosophy. The Curvv Coupe’s thoughtfully integrated elements are a testament to Tata’s ingenuity and engineering excellence.
Curvv Coupe’s Lift-back boot-lid opening:
There’s no official confirmation yet on whether the Tata Curvv Coupe will feature a lift-back bootlid, similar to the second-generation Skoda Superb in India. The lift-back design, which allows the entire tailgate to open like a hatchback, offers more convenient and practical cargo loading and unloading compared to a traditional sedan’s separate boot compartment.
It also facilitates greater luggage accommodation with the 60-40 split rear seats. The Curvv Coupe concept’s showcase at the Auto Expo hinted at such a feature. Additionally, the Curvv ICE will face competition from Citroen India, which is also launching a model named Basalt Vision in August that is speculated to have a lift-back boot-lid. The speculations is based on the roof-end hinges observed in the first teaser of its digital unveiling.
Opting for a lift-back boot-lid offers several conveniences:
• Increased Cargo Space: Larger opening facilitates easier loading and unloading of bulky items.
• Versatility: Rear seats can often be folded down, enhancing cargo capacity and flexibility.
• Convenience: Wide opening provides easy access to the entire trunk, ideal for larger items.
• Aerodynamics: Lift-back designs are often more aerodynamic, potentially improving fuel efficiency.
• Aesthetic Appeal: Sleek, modern look that enhances visual appeal.
Elctrik Speaks:
The Curvv marks Tata Motors’ entry into the mass-market compact SUV segment, launching both ICE and electric versions and ushering in a new era for the company. Innovative features like the hidden ADAS Level 2 radar and the introduction of a lift-back, a first in this segment in India, are poised to elevate Tata Motors’ standing, attracting a broader consumer base and challenging the segment leaders, particularly the Korean brands.
By introducing a coupe design in the competitive SUV segment with these first-in-segment features, Tata Motors could attract more customers to its dealerships. These strategic moves not only enhance consumer options with premium features at affordable prices but also promote sustainability with the Curvv EV, ensuring the market evolves to offer more practical and convenient choices.
