Key Highlights:
• Tata Curvv EV global debut on 7th Aug 2024
• Based on Acti.ev Gen-2 Architecture
• To be priced around Rs 20.0 lakh (ex-showroom)
• Curvv EV to feature V2L Technology
After a series of teasers, it is now confirmed that Tata Motors will globally unveil the most anticipated mass-market electric compact coupe SUV on August 7, 2024. The Tata Curvv EV will break covers along with its internal combustion (ICE) derivative, slotting between the Nexon.ev and the upcoming Harrier EV, which is slated to launch next fiscal year.
Design of Tata Curvv EV:
The Tata Curvv EV boasts a design that resembles the recently updated Tata SUVs like the Nexon.ev and Punch.ev. It features a connected daytime-running LED (DRL) at the front, accompanied by the headlights on the lower end of the front bumper and a closed-off silhouette. The sides highlight its coupe-style roofline, with the teasers revealing that it will have electronic pop-up door handles, a first-in-segment gizmo. At the rear, it will sport connected LED tail lights with welcome and goodbye gesture functionality.
Expected Features in Tata Curvv EV:
Although Tata hasn’t fully revealed the Curvv EV’s cabin but only shared a glimpse of it, spy shots and teasers suggest it will borrow elements from the Tata Nexon.ev and Harrier. For starters, the center-console might incorporate a 4-spoke illuminated multi-functional electronic steering, and the dashboard might hold a split all-digital cockpit with a 12.3-inch touch-sensitive Arcade OTT-based infotainment, which also supports wireless connectivity for Android Auto and Apple Car-Play along with iRA connected car technology.
The 10.25-inch fully digital instrument cluster features a multi-themed UI interface with an onboard navigation display. Other highlights include electronically adjustable front ventilated seats for both driver and co-passenger, a 9-speaker JBL sound system, multi-themed ambient lighting, a wireless charging pad, HVAC panel comprised of physical and touch switches involving dual-zone climate control, rear air-con vents, a tyre-pressure monitoring system (TPMS), and a panoramic sunroof.
In the safety net, the package is likely to include six airbags, a 360-degree bird-view camera, blind-spot monitoring, front and rear parking sensors, electronic stability control (ESC), hill-hold assist, and an advanced driver assistance system (ADAS) level-2 suite. As an advanced gizmo, multi-level regen braking and vehicle-to-vehicle (V2L) technology are speculated to be on offer. This technology enables your car to charge or operate any other electrical appliance through its battery source via a connector. The phenomenon could be understood in reference to the concept of a jump-start.
Powertrain of Tata Curvv EV:
Tata has not yet disclosed details regarding the battery pack and electric motor of the Curvv EV. However, it is expected to come with two battery options, offering a maximum range of around 500 km (ARAI). This electric coupe SUV will share its underpinnings with the Tata Punch EV, which is built on the company’s Gen 2 EV architecture, Acti.ev. It is surprising that despite this platform supporting all-wheel drive (AWD), the Curvv EV will operate on a front-wheel-drive (FWD) system.
The Verdict:
Tata Motors has long been a major player in the Indian auto industry, with its presence in the SUV market growing significantly in recent years. The launch of the Curvv EV in the compact SUV segment fills a long-standing gap in Tata’s lineup, offering not just a conventional model but an electric one, appealing to a broad consumer base with its innovative and sustainable design. Hyundai has dominated the compact SUV market, and their upcoming Creta EV might reinforce this. However, with the Curvv EV, Tata Motors could disrupt the market, leveraging its leadership in India’s electric passenger vehicle sector.
