Mini has introduced the new Countryman Electric in India, priced at an introductory Rs 54.90 lakh (ex-showroom). While the Countryman is available in both internal combustion engine (ICE) and electric vehicle (EV) versions worldwide, India exclusively gets the electric variant for now. Interestingly, the Countryman Electric is built on the same platform as the BMW iX1, making it a direct competitor in the Indian market.
Mini Countryman Electric Exterior:
The new Mini Countryman’s exterior design is an evolution of its predecessors, featuring a simpler and more minimalistic look, closely resembling the new Cooper S. It has significantly increased in size, now standing 60mm taller and 130mm longer than the previous model. The new octagonal grille, bezel-free headlamps, and redesigned tail lamps closely resemble those on the Cooper S.
The bumpers feature abundant black plastic cladding with contrasting trims and a subtle character line runs along the car’s length and over the wheel arches. The standout features are the C-pillar design and the floating roof effect created by the dual-tone paint finish. Wheel sizes vary from 17 to 19 inches.
Mini Countryman Electric Features:
The interior sports the minimalist style of the new Cooper S, boasting a 9.4-inch touchscreen taking center stage on the dashboard, flanked by four sleek vertical AC vents. There’s no instrument cluster behind the new three-spoke multifunctional steering wheel and the center console is simplified to a single row of toggle switches for essential functions. Most vehicle settings, including HVAC controls are managed through the circular OLED infotainment screen. The SUV’s larger dimensions have enabled a bigger center console with expanded cupholders and an extra 130mm of legroom in the rear. Similar to the Cooper S, the cabin is adorned with plenty of textured surfaces for added style.
Notably, the Countryman is the first Mini to feature Level 2 ADAS, which includes semi-autonomous driving capabilities at speeds up to 60 Kmph. Additional highlights include electrically adjustable front seats, ambient lighting, a panoramic sunroof, a wireless charger and traction control. Similar to the Cooper S, the Countryman also offers a leather-free interior.
Highlights:
• 9.4- inch circular OLED infotainment
• Dual-Zone climate control
• Wireless Charger
• ADAS Level 2
• Semi autonomous driving
• Three-spoke multifunctional steering
• Panoramic sunroof
Mini Countryman Electric Powertrain:
The Countryman Electric is equipped with a 66.4 kWh battery pack, shared with the BMW iX1, and features a single motor with front-wheel drive. It delivers 204hp and 250 Nm of torque, accelerating from 0 to 100 Kmph in 8.6 seconds, achieving a top speed of 170 Kmph. While there is a 313hp, dual-motor all-wheel-drive (AWD) version available globally, this specification is reserved for the BMW iX1 to keep the models distinct.
The Countryman Electric boasts a claimed range of 462 Km (WLTP) on a single charge. It supports fast charging at up to 130kW, allowing the battery to charge from 10 to 80 percent in under 30 minutes. Additionally, a 22 kW AC charger is available, which can fully charge the battery from 0 to 100 percent in 3 hours and 45 minutes.
Battery Pack | Power | Torque | Range (WLTP) |
66.4 kWh | 204hp | 250 Nm | 462 Km |
Elctrik Speaks:
The introduction of the Countryman Electric in India represents a significant step for Mini into the niche market of mid-sized electric SUVs. As a subsidiary of BMW, Mini is poised to leverage its competitive pricing and diverse offerings to gain an edge over rivals. Compared to competitors like the BMW iX1, Mercedes EQA 250+, and Volvo C40 Recharge, the Countryman Electric stands out as a strong contender, promising to boost sales and mark a new chapter in Mini India’s history with its debut into the premium passenger electric mobility category.
