JSW MG Motor India has formally announced a new luxury brand called MG Select, which will tap the growing “accessible luxury” segment in India. This strategic partnership will now transform the premium automotive market landscape in the country.
About MG Select
MG Select will focus on the high-end car offerings, electric vehicles, hybrids, and plug-in hybrids. Four models of the brand are expected to be launched in the upcoming couple of years. Out of which one model’s debut is expected by March 2025. Other interesting product from this new brand is the MG Cyberster, an electric sports car, which gained ground earlier this year.
MG Select Market Strategy
To support the launch, experience centers will be positioned in 12 key cities across India. These experience centers are built into the objective of delivering an experience to customers beyond merely selling cars. Gaurav Gupta, Chief Growth Officer of JSW MG Motor India said that these centres will bring an element of culture, hospitality, and craftsmanship to deliver the ascent brand experience.
Market Conditions
The Indian premium car market is peaking and dominated by the icons such as Mercedes-Benz and BMW. Luxury vehicles currently compose less than 2% of India’s total car market. MG Select will look to take advantage of such change dynamics by offering competitive pricing and innovative features that appeal to such affluent consumers.

Implications for the Automotive Landscape
Considering the fact that Electric Vehicles are slowly gaining momentum and have already outpaced the pace of mass-market adoption in this segment, MG Select focusing on new energy vehicles well sets it apart from its competition, with which most have of late concentrated majorly on the traditional combustion engines.
ELCTRIK Speaks
MG Select is bold entry into the premium space of India while trying to redefine car ownership as easy, accessible, and sustainable. While the company rolls out its first models and experience centers, it will be watched to see if there are shifts in consumer preferences in the Indian automotive landscape.
