Suzuki is entering the electric vehicle market with its first EV, the eVX, set to launch in 2025. Testing is underway, and prototypes have been spoted several times. Initially, these test vehicles had temporary headlights and taillights, but recent spy shots show the production-spec lighting, highlighting Suzuki’s progress.
Maruti Suzuki, India’s largest car maker, has shifted from making small, affordable hatchbacks to focusing on larger utility vehicles. The eVX SUV reflects this change. It’s been undergoing extensive testing in India and around the world for the past year, closely following the Suzuki eVX concept unveiled in January 2023.
Earlier prototypes had temporary projector headlamps and exposed halogen taillights. Now, new sightings in Southern Europe signifies the eVX with sleek LED headlights and taillights. The main LED headlights are housed in a projector, with a unique LED DRL design that complements the SUV’s X-shaped front-end. However, the taillights feature an LED design, similar to the original concept, with an upper LED likely connecting via a light bar.
While the latest test mules didn’t have the new alloy wheels sighted in recent Indian spy shots, they still show significant updates. There’s no sign of a rear electric motor yet, but there are speculations that the eVX might have both a dual-motor all-wheel-drive (AWD) variant and a single-motor front-wheel-drive (FWD) option, both powered by a 60 kwh battery that promises around 500 km (WLTP) on a single charge.
Inside, the eVX offers a premium experience with features like a floating center console boasting a large infotainment screen, a 360-degree camera, and a wireless charging pad. It is also believed that the eVX, could be the first Maruti to hoist ADAS, though it is unclear. Several times a panoramic sunroof has also been captured in the test-mules of production-spec eVX.
As the 2025 launch nears, the eVX is shaping up to be a major player in the EV market, with India playing a crucial role as both a market and production hub. As per the sources, a Toyota version of the eVX, is also in development, under the Toyota-Suzuki International Partnership.
