One of the top-auto manufacturers of India, Mahindra & Mahindra (M&M) has decided to take the level of car painting on another stage, specially for their upcoming EV range. The indigenous manufacturer, recently made it official that, they will be using ABB’s Pixel Paint technology for the new electric vehicle paint facility.
Releasing a statement on the same, ABB has clarified that, the deployment of the technology also includes 42 robots from the IRB 5500 series marking Mahindra & Mahindra (M&M) as the first Indian OEM to adopt Pixel Paint technology for painting roofs and pillars in contrasting colours.
Joerg Reger, managing director of ABB Robotics Automotive Business Line, further added, Our Pixel Paint technology is capable of accurately apply both large areas of uniform colour and intricate details, ensuring precision without causing delays on the production line or requiring manual intervention.
By deployment of Pixel Paint equipped robots in dedicated cells, Mahindra’s paint shop will automate the application of finishes like contrasting roofs and pillars on its new line of EVs.
This step towards exterior paint shade has come after, rising customer preferences towards customization and personalized
ed persona selection. It is also believed, that this move will lead ways for changing consumer’s approach and choices in direction of a sustainable mobility solutions.
The Pixel Paint technology is functional under Mahindra’s facility, been utilized by the company’s only existing EV, XUV 400. The technology has an involvement of a paint head with numerous individually controlled nozzles mounted on ABB robots, allowing for precise and customizable paint applications.
