As for a car that has garnered interest from every other enthusiast, mostly the environmentalist, MG has taken one step forward by designing the ZS EV. We are going deep, asking the owners who drive this car every day to share their experiences. And find out if the MG ZS EV is the real deal or a wave of flashy marketing.
Key Highlights:
- Actual range of MG ZS EV is way lower than the expectation of the cutomers.
- Customers are very disappointed with the charging infrastructure.
Mixed Reviews of MG ZS EV Owners
Needless to say, the first time one steps inside the MG ZS EV, it is impressive. Spacious interiors, futuristic tech, and a whisper-quiet ride promise the perfect ingredients for an EV experience that stands out.
Manoj Gupta, an owner of an EV by ZS from Pune, reflected on his journey, “The first month with the car was awesome. I loved the idea of driving an EV and how smooth it felt on the road. But when I took it on my first road trip, reality hit hard.” A charge anxiety nightmare. “The range falls unexpectedly faster. Finding a working fast charger was like hunting for treasure. My family was stuck waiting for hours at a highway pit stop.”
Sonal Verma, another owner of ZS EV, shares a different story. “This is absolutely perfect for city drives. It saved me from all this fuel price fluctuation. The car’s range is just good for my usual daily run. It is, therefore, eco-friendly and tech-packed, which is what I wanted. Sure, I shall not drive it out on long drives yet, but for urban life, it’s a dream.”

Industry Speaks About Adoption of MG ZS EV
While opinions from owners appear to be polarised, the experience of the players in the industry seems relatively balanced.
According to the editor of Autocar India, Hormazd Sorabjee sums up the performance of the ZS EV with words promising but far from flawless: “It’s a great city car, no doubt. The driving experience is smooth, and the features it offers are impressive for its price range. However, charging infrastructure outside of major cities still largely lags, and that’s a big hurdle for EVs in India.”
But Raghav Belavadi, a renowned automotive journalist, agrees that MG has gone the extra mile to make EVs more mainstream. “It’s affordable for what it offers. And with time, as charging networks improve, it could become the go-to choice for urban drivers.”
Debate on Pricing of MG ZS EV
It stands in the ₹19 to ₹25 lakh (Ex-Showroom) price bracket. According to Kavita Sharma, “At that price, you get so much in the form of high-tech ADAS and connected car tech, including a sunroof, all at a price much lower than the premium EVs. It’s a value-for-money proposition for somebody looking for that EV packed full of tech.”
Only some people are swayed by the advantage of electricity. Says Rajat Singh, who had his eyes on the ZS EV but opted for a hybrid instead: “For ₹24 lakh, I expect the whole package great range, a premium interior, and seamless travel experience. But with charging issues and the drop in real-world range, I couldn’t justify the price.”.
EVs like the MG ZS EV beat most of the world’s emissions. Evidently, though, there’s more to the environmental story. “While electric vehicles are useful in terms of reducing local pollution, we are still relying hugely on coal-generated electricity in India. So, while it’s greener than petrol cars, it’s not as clean as many people think,” says Anumita Roychowdhury, who is a senior programme coordinator for air and waste at the Centre for Science and Environment.
ELCTRIK Speaks
Undoubtedly, the MG ZS EV has shaken things up for India’s budding EV market. It does bring in modern tech, eco-friendly drive, and affordability, which is quite a tempting proposition for early adopters, but far from perfect. It might just be the eco-friendly ride you’re looking for provided you can live with the present limitations; otherwise, it’s more of a leap of faith at present than a sure win.
