Hyundai Motor India, a prominent automaker in the country, has announced a significant expansion of its Ultra-High Speed Public EV Charging Network, demonstrating its commitment to advancing electric mobility in India. The company plans to install a total of 100 charging stations by 2027, aligning with its vision to drive the adoption of electric vehicles (EVs) and alleviate range anxiety for travelers.
Currently, Hyundai stands as the sole original equipment manufacturer (OEM) in India to establish 11 ultra-fast charging stations at public locations. Each station is equipped with three charging points, featuring units of DC 150 kW, DC 60 kW, and DC 30 kW capacity. This expansion aims to facilitate both intercity and intracity travel, bolstering the EV infrastructure across key highways and cities in the country.
Jae Wan Ryu, Executive Director of Corporate Planning at Hyundai Motor India, emphasized the company’s commitment to setting new industry standards and catering to customer needs. He reiterated Hyundai’s dedication to enhancing the EV ownership experience, in line with the Indian government’s efforts to build a comprehensive electric vehicle ecosystem.
The expanded public charging network spans across six major cities, including Mumbai, Pune, Ahmedabad, Hyderabad, Gurugram, and Bangalore, along with five key highway locations. Operational around the clock, these chargers are accessible to all Hyundai and non-Hyundai customers, offering convenient charging solutions.
To enhance customer convenience, the charging stations will be staffed by dedicated personnel and will feature nearby amenities such as coffee shops and restaurants. Additionally, Hyundai India aims to offer quick charging experiences, notably for Hyundai IONIQ 5 customers who can charge their vehicles from 10% to 80% within just 21 minutes.
Customers can avail of charging sessions at competitive rates, with prices ranging from Rs 18 to Rs 24 per unit, depending on the charger’s capacity. The EV charging stations are easily accessible through Hyundai’s myHyundai app, enabling users to discover chargers, navigate to locations, pre-book charging slots, make digital payments, and monitor charging status.
Furthermore, Hyundai plans to expand its Ultra-Fast charging stations to 10 or more new locations in 2024, in addition to the ongoing installation drive. The company’s commitment to installing 100 charging stations by 2027 underscores its long-term vision for sustainable mobility and electrification in India, as outlined in the agreement with the Government of Tamil Nadu during the Global Investor Meet in January 2024.
