Hyundai’s flagship electric vehicle, the Hyundai Ioniq 5, has entered the Guinness World Records for achieving the Greatest Altitude Change by an Electric Car. This record-breaking feat highlights the Ioniq 5’s exceptional engineering, reliability, and sustainability while showcasing Hyundai’s commitment to pushing the boundaries of electric mobility.
The Record-Breaking Journey
This epic journey started from Umling La, the world’s highest drivable road located in Ladakh, India, at an elevation of 5,799 meters above sea level and ended at Kuttanad, Kerala, which is at 3 meters below sea level. It notched a total altitude change of 5,802 meters for the first time ever in an electric car.
In that regard, covering a distance of 4,900 kilometers in 14 days is not an easy feat, but it was done for testing the car over different terrains and rough climatic conditions. The icy winds of the Himalayas to the hot humid coastal climate of Kerala would leave the Ioniq 5 like nothing else in the market regarding its durability and versatility.
Why Hyundai Ioniq 5 is Unique?
The Hyundai Ioniq 5 is built off the company’s latest-generation Electric-Global Modular Platform (E-GMP). It is designed exclusively to support electric vehicles. What a record-setter-the model came with the following:
- Battery: 72.6 kWh battery pack that promises up to a remarkable 631 kilometers without recharging.
- Motor: Rear-wheel drive, for instance, by a single 217 hp electric motor for perfect performance.
- Technology: It incorporates the latest safety features, regenerative braking, and smart connectivity systems to not only ensure safety but also provide comfort.
Hyundai Motor India Ltd. Managing Director Unsoo Kim expressed great pride over the achievement, “With the Hyundai IONIQ 5 setting a new Guinness World Record™ for the largest altitude change by an electric vehicle, we are immensely proud. Hyundai’s steadfast dedication to innovation, technological superiority, and sustainability is demonstrated by this accomplishment.”
