Kolkata is going to make history in India’s electric mobility journey. EVRE, the first company in EV charging infrastructure. It is gearing up to launch Asia’s biggest solar-integrated EV charging hub. The facility, which will open in August 2025, is all set to change the EV dynamics. Not only for Kolkata but for the whole country.
EVRE: A Game-Changer for India’s EV Ecosystem
Situated on the sprawling campus of the erstwhile Andrew Yule & Co. In Thakurpukur, South Kolkata, the EVRE Charger Hub will have an unprecedented 300 charging stations. Making it the biggest in Asia and only behind China’s 650-charger mega-hub worldwide. The project is an investment of ₹7.5 crore. It comes at a strategic time to be operational before the city’s famous Durga Puja festival.
EVRE Plant Key Features at a Glance
- Total Chargers: 300 (60 fast chargers up to 120 kW, 240 standard/slow chargers)
- Energy Capacity: 6 MW, with 40% contributed by on-site solar microgrid
- Area: Almost 2 acres, built for large-volume fleet and public usage
- Local Manufacturing: All the chargers manufactured at EVRE’s Himachal Pradesh facility, in support of ‘Make in India’
- Primary Users: Snap-E’s 300-vehicle all-electric cab fleet, with eventual access for individual EV owners and other fleet operators
Ashhok Kapoor, Managing Director of EzUrja (EVRE’s technology partner), highlighted the hub’s twin emphasis on scale and sustainability, “Far from being simply a charging facility, this hub is a vision for the urban mobility of the future. Through the combination of renewable energy and cutting-edge charging technology. We’re giving Kolkata the power to drive India towards clean, safe transport. That this is being done in association with Snap-E is only the beginning. Our hope is for this hub to be a launchpad for large-scale EV usage throughout the region.”
Why This Matters: Impact on Consumers and the Industry
- Boosting Consumer Confidence: The sheer volume and dependability of the hub are likely to alleviate range anxiety. A primary deterrent for prospective EV customers.
- Fleet Electrification: With Snap-E’s electric cabs as anchor tenants. The hub will showcase the feasibility of large-scale fleet electrification in Indian cities.
- Sustainable Operations: The 40% solar energy mix provides a new benchmark for green mobility infrastructure. Lowering emissions and grid dependence.
- Urban Planning: Where the hub’s siting and architecture provide an example of combining charging infrastructure within city planning.
EVRE Looking Ahead: Expansion and Replication
EVRE plans do not rest at Kolkata alone. The firm is already developing 10 further high-capacity charging stations for the Kolkata-Asansol corridor. Focussed on electric buses and long-distance travel. This can further drive adoption of EVs throughout West Bengal and beyond.
ELCTRIK Speaks
With the countdown to the August 2025 launch underway. Kolkata’s EVRE Charger Hub will be a beacon of India’s commitment to clean, sustainable transport. With its combination of cutting-edge technology, renewable energy, and local ingenuity. The project will set cities across the country ablaze with inspiration-and establish India as a global leader in the EV revolution.
