Dubai EV Future: Dubai has registered an important milestone in its electric vehicle aspirations. By increasing the charging points to over 1,270 locations throughout the emirate as of early August 2025. This achievement was confirmed by DEWA MD & CEO H.E. Saeed Mohammed Al Tayer. This milestone places Dubai at the leading edge of smart city mobility in the region. Aiding consumer uptake and the broader sustainability objectives of the UAE.
Dubai EV Future: Key Expansion Highlights
- Record Growth in Charging Infrastructure: The emirate’s charging infrastructure, under agreements between DEWA and public and private sectors. They currently covers more than 40,600 registered EVs as of the first half of 2025. A steep growth fueled by incentives and demand.
- End-to-End Ecosystem: DEWA’s EV Green Charger program, inaugurated in 2014 as the world’s first public charging network. Now comprises an extensive portfolio of ultra-fast, fast, public, and wall-box chargers. Designed to be convenient and easy to use, the system leverages digital media. Such as DEWA’s smart app and website for station locator and booking. Charging is also made available to unregistered customers through a guest mode function.
- Strategic Partnerships: A significant partnership with Parkin seeks to position charging points at busy and convenient spots. Further facilitating smooth access for motorists across Dubai.
- Regulatory Framework for Innovation: Dubai established a specialized regulatory and licensing regime for independent operators of charging points. To enable a dual-track strategy DEWA extends the public grid directly. While licensed private sector operators drive quicker coverage in pace with the city’s strong growth trends.
- Usage and Community Impact: The number of DEWA’s charging stations utilized has risen by 23.6%. During Q1 2025 as compared to the same quarter last year. Overall electricity consumed for EV charging stands at over 39,000MWh since 2015. Driving over 195 million kilometers of EV use within the emirate.
H.E. Al Tayer said, “In accordance with the vision of the visionary leadership to transform Dubai into a global model. For smart urban development by promoting green mobility, we introduced the EV Green Charger initiative in 2014. We follow this pioneering path by offering innovative digital EV charging services and promoting private sector investment. This aligns with the Dubai Clean Energy Strategy 2050 and the Dubai Net Zero Carbon Emissions Strategy 2050.”
What’s Next for Dubai EV Future Landscape?
The emirate still promotes the private sector with a broad licensing framework. With more than 20,900 registered users of EVs under the DEWA Green Charger programme in early 2025. On-going campaigns through the Dubai EV Community Hub. Dubai aspires to continue its leadership in sustainable transport.
