New Delhi, 14 June, 2025 — DGT & Shell India: Taking a giant leap towards developing a climate-resilient workforce. The Directorate General of Training (DGT) of Ministry of Skill Development and Entrepreneurship (MSDE). They have collaborated with Shell India to initiate a strong Green Skills and Electric Vehicle (EV) training program. Officially launched on June 12, 2025, the program aims to reach out to youth. In states like Delhi-NCR, Gujarat, Maharashtra, Tamil Nadu, and Karnataka to fill the skill. Mismatch in India’s growing green energy and e-mobility industries.
Mansi Madan Tripathy, Shell India Chairperson, reiterated Shell’s commitment. “This program equips young people with hands-on expertise. To succeed in a changing energy world. It’s a positive step towards enabling communities to move towards a lower-carbon world.”
DGT & Shell India: Multi-Component, Multi-Tiered Training Framework
The program, executed by Shell’s training partner Edunet Foundation. It has a multi-tiered framework that is proposed to address varied learning requirements. Infrastructure capabilities:
- 240-hour Advanced EV Technician Course: Provided in four National Skill Training Institutes (NSTIs). This flagship course includes advanced EV systems, battery management, diagnostics, safety procedures, and digital solutions. Supplemented with extensive hands-on lab training and instructor-led sessions.
- 90-hour Job-Oriented EV Skills Course: Provided in 12 Industrial Training Institutes (ITIs) with Shell-sponsored EV labs. This course emphasizes job-specific, practical skills deployable in industry now.
- 50-hour Basic Green Skills Module: For ITIs that do not have specific labs. This module familiarizes students with the basics of green energy and the essentials of e-mobility.
Specialized EV Labs and Faculty Development
The program’s highlight is setting up state-of-the-art EV skill laboratories in a few chosen ITIs and NSTIs. These are real-world, industry-relevant training facilities, and students graduate from them as skilled practitioners. More than 250 trainers will go through an intense Training of Trainers (ToT) program. To cascade knowledge and best practices across the participating institutes.
DGT & Shell India: Curriculum and Certification
Co-created by Shell, Edunet Foundation, and DGT, the course is designed to meet the latest industry demands and encompasses:
- Electric vehicle systems and troubleshooting
- Battery management and safety procedures
- Digital tool usage in servicing and repair
- Practical troubleshooting and industry simulations
Successful candidates are award co-brand certificates from Shell and DGT. Making them more employable. Placement assistance is also built in, linking graduates with vacancies in the emerging green energy and EV industries.
