Delhi EV Policy 2.0 Extension
The existing policy was first launched in August 2020. It has been continued for the third time. The third extension has ensured that all EV buyers will be able to avail themselves of a benefits list. That includes a 25% subsidy on e-cycles up to Rs 5,500, with a similar amount for e-rickshaws and e-carts. Rs 5,000 per kWh of battery capacity up to Rs 30,000 for electric two-wheelers. Moreover, EVs bought on or after January 1, 2024, are also exempted from road tax.
Delhi EV Policy 2.0: A Leap Towards Electric Mobility
The Delhi EV Policy 2.0 is slated to be announced shortly, with a number of salient features to promote EV adoption:
- Ambitious Targets: The policy targets 95% of total new vehicle registrations as electric by 2027. A notable increase from the earlier target of 25% by 2024.
- Infrastructure Development: All new buildings will be mandated to install EV charging points for at least 20% of parking space. While existing buildings will have to reserve 5% for EV charging.
- Phasing Out CNG Vehicles: A plan is being implemented to replace CNG auto-rickshaws, taxis, and light commercial vehicles with electric ones in a phased way.
- Complete Switch to Electric Buses: The government has a target of a complete switch to electric buses to make public transport more sustainable.
- Incentives and Subsidies: New incentive plans for electric vehicles are being planned. After the successful closure of earlier incentives for the first 1,000 customers.
