New Delhi, June 4, 2025 — In a decisive step to curb Delhi air pollution. CM Rekha Gupta unveiled the city’s most ambitious air pollution mitigation strategy to date. The 25-point Air Pollution Mitigation Plan 2025. Announced at the Delhi Secretariat just ahead of World Environment Day. The plan is being hailed as a “scientific, comprehensive, and actionable” roadmap. To address the capital’s chronic air quality crisis.
Delhi Air Pollution Mitigation Plan 2025: Key Features
Seven sources of major pollution are address by the plan. Dust, vehicle emissions, construction and demolition waste, municipal solid waste, industrial emissions, absence of green cover, and poor monitoring. It features:
Electric Mobility Revolution:
- More than 5,000 new electric buses and 2,299–2,300 electric autos will be introduced. In the public transport fleet of Delhi by the end of the year. With charging points at markets, malls, metro stations, airports, and parking lots.
- 18,000 public EV charging points are to be expanded rapidly.
- BS-VI, CNG, or electric commercial vehicles only will be permitted entry into Delhi. Effective from November 1, 2025. Monitored with ANPR cameras at borders and fuel pumps for implementing compliance and detecting end-of-life vehicles.
Scientific Innovations:
- The government will collaborate with IIT Kanpur and other institutions for piloting cloud seeding. For artificial rain with the intention of rapidly bringing down airborne particulate matter.
- An AI-enabled portal will track construction activities above 500 sq m. Incorporating geo-tagging and compliance notifications.
Dust and Construction Control:
- Compulsory rooftop sprinkler systems on all high-rise complexes (above 3,000 sq m). Including shopping malls and hotels.
- More than 1,000 water sprinklers, 140 anti-smog guns, and 70 mechanical sweepers. They will use throughout the city.
- Construction sites will have to fit compulsory water sprinkling systems, A new 1,000 TPD C&D waste plant at Tehkhand will enhance recycling.
Hotspot Interventions
- Mist sprayers will install on 13 major hotspots of pollution. To stifle dust and particulate emissions, particularly during winter smog.
Green Delhi Campaign:
- The ‘Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam’ campaign will give a green cover to 70 lakh (7 million) saplings. Starting June 5 to increase the green cover of Delhi and promote environmental guardianship.
Waste and Industrial Emissions:
- Improving waste management practices, tightening emission norms for industries. Bi-annual audits of Pollution Under Control Certificate (PUCC) centers.
Chief Minister Rekha Gupta reiterated, “Giving clean air to the people of Delhi is not a choice. It is a responsibility. This plan has a balance of enforcement, creativity, and people’s participation. It is not only a document but a guide to a clean and healthy Delhi. We have a dream Green Delhi, Clean Delhi, Healthy Delhi. We can tackle the big issue of pollution in Delhi together.”
