A groundbreaking EV battery-testing services facility is set to be established in Bengaluru for INR 15 crore.

The facility, whose foundation stone was laid by Union Consumer Affairs Minister Pralhad Joshi, will be constructed on a one-acre plot at the National Test House (NTH) within the Regional Reference Standard Laboratory campus in Jakkur. This state-of-the-art testing facility aims to provide valuable support to EV manufacturers in South India by ensuring battery efficiency, safety compliance, and performance metrics.
Bengaluru is experiencing significant growth, particularly in the electric vehicle (EV) sector. The upcoming facility will provide essential testing and certification services. Suresh Babu, the director of the National Test House (NTH) under the Ministry of Consumer Affairs, expressed that the testing service plays a crucial role in supporting the government’s initiative to promote ‘Made in India’ products. This service can significantly assist local manufacturers in demonstrating the quality of their products.
The facility will be equipped with advanced testing equipment for conducting electrical safety, functional safety, climate testing (IP rating, UV radiation, corrosion resistance), and mechanical and material checks (flammability, glow wire testing). “Our team of experts will be responsible for certifying these batteries,” he added.
